Enders Falls

I decided to check out this sub's Week 1 "Best of the Valley" winner, Enders Falls.

The parking lot is right next to the road, and it was less than 5 minutes from the lot to the first waterfall. Spotting all five waterfalls was relatively easy, as the path was well defined, including the staircases that made it easy for all ages. A must see for the Farmington Valley!

Week 1 of our "Best of the Valley" guide is officially in the books!

We ended up with a tie on upvotes between Wellner Preserve in Avon (my submission) and Enders State Forest in Barkhamsted (submitted by u/LarryGriff13).

Since I tipped the scale with my submission, I am handing the official Week 1 crown to Enders State Forest!

Here are the details and trailhead pins for both spots so you can check them out this weekend:

1st Place: Enders State Forest

Runner-Up: Wellner Preserve Trailhead

Huge thanks to everyone who voted and chimed in for our very first round!

Best of the Farmington Valley Week 1: What’s the ultimate quick hike?

The votes are in!

Technically we ended in a dead heat between burgers and hikes. Since I tipped the scale by voting for burgers, I'm doing the honorable thing and letting Best Quick Hike take Week 1.

Here is how the nominations and voting work:

Nominate your favorite: Leave a comment below with your go-to short hike in the Farmington Valley.

Be specific: Tell us why it wins. First, it must be under an hour. Then defend it, does it have a great view at the top? Easy parking? Good for kids or dogs? Etc.

Vote: Upvote the top comments you agree with. The trail with the most upvotes by Friday evening takes the crown for our official community guide!

Drop your top nominations below and let's see which trail takes the top spot!

We hit 500 members! Help launch a weekly "Best of the Valley" series (Vote inside)

Today we officially crossed the 500 member mark. That feels like a great little milestone, so let's take advantage of it.

It feels like the right time to start building something genuinely useful together: an official, crowd sourced "Best of the Valley" guide. I'm not going to decide the categories or the nominees, it's all up to you, the people who actually live in the Valley.

Here is how it will work:

Every Monday we'll run a quick poll to pick that week's topic. Then on Wednesday we'll drop the main thread where everyone can share their top nominations and vote for the winner in the comments.

To kick this off, I want your vote on which category we should tackle first. Cast your vote in the poll (or drop a comment if you have a better starter topic).

Let me know what you think of the series idea, and thanks for being part of the first 500!

Farmington approved the Meadow Road sidewalks. Where else in the Valley desperately needs a walking path?

Farmington Town Council just approved a major sidewalk project along Meadow Road.

It got me thinking about all the other spots across our towns where going for a simple walk feels dangerous.

Where else would you love to see a sidewalk?
