Is anyone in the US here and trading equities at a prop firm? Do you need any licenses to do so? Like completing the SIE, Series 57/63/7, etc.?
reddit.comSince the PDT rule is now gone, do you think prop firms will start letting people trade stocks? Or do you still need a Series7/Series 63 to be able to do that?
FINRA’s removal of the PDT/$25K framework (new intraday margin rules effective June 4, 2026) removes a regulatory barrier that made frequent intraday equity trading harder for small retail accounts, so brokers can now offer more intraday buying power to smaller accounts.
What a prop firm would need to do to add equities:
- Have an appropriate brokerage/clearing arrangement (be or partner with a broker‑dealer or clearing broker that can execute and clear US equities).
- Update risk and margin systems to meet the new intraday margin standards and monitor intraday deficits in real time or by end‑of‑day per FINRA guidance.
- Revise account docs, agreements, and capital/reserve planning to cover equities’ settlement, shorting, and regulatory requirements (SEC, exchange rules, Reg T, etc.).
- Adjust evaluation rules, risk limits, and platform connectivity for tick/data/feed and exchange fees.
- Obtain any necessary licenses or registrations if acting as a broker‑dealer or offering custody/clearing services.
Prop firms that currently operate via third‑party brokers (or that are set up as broker‑dealers) can add equities trading if they build the operational, legal, and risk infrastructure; smaller “challenge” style prop shops that simply provide simulated account access or use forex-only rails may find it costly and complex. The FINRA rule change lowers a regulatory hurdle but doesn’t remove the significant operational and compliance requirements of offering equities.
Someone else posted in a comment awhile ago that they had never seen their neighbors (or anyone on their street) carry in groceries for the decades they’ve lived there and then many others had said the same now that they’ve mentioned it. What are your thoughts? Do you share this experience?
reddit.comI wish there was a poll of everyone who would want to contribute to the poll’s occupation.
It would be interesting to know where best to look for a safe job
Anyone else remember one of the dogs in the painting of dogs playing poker where one of them was wearing a red visor?
Just wanted to get your everyone’s opinion on this because I definitely remember it. I’m pretty sure it was a Corgi or Shetland Sheepdog wearing it too and that dog may have just vanished from the painting completely
