to what extent was hunting a way for common people to get meat, or exclusively a pasttime of the nobility, in medieval Europe?
I understand that at some times and places peasants were restricted from hunting in forests and could be fined if caught, but this seems to contradict what I've read of hunting as moreso a way for peasants to get food. was restriction of hunting to nobility the norm?
