Expertism is hurting people's ability to listen

People often use a "shortcut" in their brain that lets them listen only to the people they already respect. This happens because listening to someone and actually checking if they are right takes more time and hard work for the brain. It is much easier to just listen to a "big" leader for five seconds and do what they say without thinking.

Because of this, these people end up with a very short attention span for anyone they think is "below" them. If they don't see you as an authority, their brain sees your words as a waste of energy. By ignoring what you say, they never have to face the truth or admit they made a mistake. This turns their short attention span into a way to stay in charge and act like the things you remember never even happened.
