The mini-album description in the official website always helps giving context to the new lore events of the comeback.

NMIXX steps into MIXXTOPIA, a vast, empty ground that resembles reality, yet exists as a void. The girls listen to the planet’s heartbeat—A rhythm woven from all six of their hearts. They realize the planet is pulsing with excitement at their presence, like a child, curious and full of anticipation for what it will grow into. In this world of nothing, where anything can take form, the girls choose to make everything filled with love grow in each other’s hearts and across this land. “Heavy Serenade” is a song of love, carrying the girls’ deep, resolute feelings. Their voices become a heavy booster, cultivating love.

Once again we're reminded that NMIXX reached MIXXTOPIA, the utopian place they've always searched for, but it's vast, empty and resembles reality, the place from where they've escaped because of its rules. This planet might be void, but it's pulsing with excitement, anticipating how it will grow, surely with love from NMIXX.

I want you to notice how this planet is humanized: planet's heartbeat, pulsing with excitement, like a child, full of anticipation. "A rhythm woven from all six of their hearts." the heartbeat of this planet has the rhythm of NMIXX hearts.

The Album cover depicts a meadow with glass flowers moved by the blowing wind. Every flower has petals made of different glass shards. In the sky more glass fragments are carried away. You can hear this image on the Motion Poster creating an unique soundscape of chimes.

Heavy Serenade MV Breakthrough

The video starts with a shore on Okinawa island and a quick glimpse of electronic scrap. After the title drop, the video starts for real, with the girls running on a vast green field. A giant moon occupies the cloudy sky. From several past depictions of this place, we know it's MIXXTOPIA.

Jiwoo and Haewon are sitting behind a shining cooling system of a building, making crowns out of flowers. Both have white accessories on their fingers, soon the other girls will too. Haewon spots some reflection shimmering on her wrist: it's a white-glassy fruit hanging on a tree in front of them. This fruit falls on the ground and breaks. Haewon takes its shards and brings them to Kyujin, in her laboratory nearby, probably inside the building. Here, she's tinkering with other glass shards, making flowers out of it, like those from the HS Album Cover, a gift said Haewon.

Lily and Bae are on the roof of the same building. Lily is arranging rocks (notes) on strings on the floor, she was drawing a musical staff while Bae is looking at power lines in the sky, signaling Y.O.U. in sign language. It looks like they're searching or understanding something about the music or sounds near them.

Jiwoo and Bae are moving a shopping cart adorned with pearls, a lamp and other shiny objects, in a field with a caravan camp. Bae ponders between two fine glasses and plays with Jiwoo with a cord of suspended colored rocks. Apparently they're making a big transportable wind chime, an instrument that generates sounds when wind moves these suspended objects against each other. The other girls are wandering there too: Kyujin in a red dress (the only with such a vivid color) puts a Star Fruit on the ground, near a grey box, Haewon is drawing a dolphin on a panel, probably the art cover of the vinyl NMIXX is recording. A time-lapse of something like a sound recording station, with a workbench with props and (I'm not an expert) a trans-receiver radio.

Through Sullyoon's blue eyes we see the current caravan setting without anyone but white lights scattered around. Still within the vision, Sullyoon opens the caravan door and sees a girl dressed in white handling the glass flower. From now on "the girl" will be referred also as Kim Yeonseo, the real name of the actress.

On the shore, NMIXX are wandering around, everyone with a sound meter or recording device, even the mobile wind chime was brought there to play sounds. Jiwoo finds a clear rock in the water and Kyujin comes up with a similar one but with a different shape, making a heart together. Both Lily and Sullyoon sense a sound and Lily right away listens to it with her parabolic microphone, used to listen to distant sounds, usually birds. Bae listens to the (sea?) sounds too.

After the sound search session (?) on the shore NMIXX run towards the building and, in the next clip the girl Yeonseo is also running, but towards the caravan (which is still located near the building) and in particular the finished vinyl disc, with the sleeve art made by Haewon. Interestingly, the vinyl is put on boomboxes, a trumpet and a lamp. A better look at this album art shows a dolphin above a ring (or a portal?), a light shines in the middle of the album, the background is decorated with flowers/fireworks. Yeonseo takes it as if she was searching/waiting for it, she's happy holding it.

On the caravan floor now there are all these gifts to Yeonseo:

• Vinyl made by Haewon at the camp
• Glass flowers made by Kyujin in the lab
• Glass triangle used by Lily on the roof
• Ceramic cup found by Kyujin again
• Ceramic shards threaded together
• 5 books and a lamp

It's night and NMIXX are out, still in/near the building, searching for more white/shiny/related to music things with flashlights. Looking for something to give to the girl. They find the ceramic cup above, a silver globe, CDs and a clear rock. Everything they found was put it in the cart and left.

It's day again and Yeonseo exits from the caravan to look at the sound recording station. She's happily exploring it as it's something new for her, so she clearly didn't make it. Even though we didn't see NMIXX making it we can assume they did it as it appeared after they made the mobile wind chime.

Lily and Bae are in a music shop with only NMIXX albums, browsing through vinyl records. Bae finds the vinyl Haewon made and Lily points out the dolphin on the cover. The clip after is Yeonseo happily holding the record on the bed of the caravan, she's probably listening to it, as some clips after she "sings back" to the gramophone.

Jiwoo and Kyujin are in the laboratory tinkering with cables and electronics. Kyujin is making a peculiar device, a frankenstein of various things, called by Haewon "Recorder".

Then, while Sullyoon and Haewon are having a pillow war, Kyujin presses a button on that device, holding it like a camera, as if she were recording the scene.

This device is rejoiced by Haewon at the sunset, while the other girls are setting up on the roof of the building another sound station. In a clip Haewon and Jiwoo were seen at the caravan taking things from the wind chime cart for the bigger audio setup. This is the only scene where both NMIXX members and Yeonseo appear together, though they don't interact.

NMIXX line up on the terrace and with the power lines, their heads become notes on a staff and their arms tell the duration of this melody. From the expressions of the girls this is a moment of revelation for them, they either succeed or fail and it depends on the Recorder Haewon is holding. Jiwoo takes her hand and runs towards the group. Lily said they were "recording 'Heavy Serenade'" so they've "gathered all the recording equipment for this new MIXXTOPIA." since "when they first arrived, there was nothing here so they were doing whatever they could to make this beautiful space come to life at least with music."

Eventually everything goes right: the girls run on the field while holding the strings of the musical staff flying in the sky like a kite would. From their feet, music notes spawn and fly with the staff. Note that in these outfits there are many piano keys like on socks and skirts. During this run, Haewon drops the Recorder and come back to search it. The clear cover broke (to me it looks more like roots...). Anyway Sullyoon comes back too and helps Haewon standing up. NMIXX reach again the caravan, Bae looks inside and Haewon put this device on an old radio.

The video ends with Yeonseo listening to the Heavy Serenade cassette in the Recorder. From outside the caravan she hears the wind blowing and moving the chime installed by NMIXX, so she looks outside the window and music notes are snowing.

MV Lore Discussion

The key to read and understand this comeback is, comments from Lily aside, the message after the web minigame:

We gathered the musical notes that had been scattered throughout MIXXTOPIA. Then the once-silent MIXXTOPIA slowly began to fill with sounds that resembled the beating of our hearts

Indeed, in the MV we see the girls going around with listening devices, reproducing notes analogically with rocks and wind, capturing them with a special camera and, at last, with a big sound system on the highest place they could reach.

But it began to amplify, grow deeper, grow heavy, and become solid, until it finally turned into a serenade of love.

This is the grand finale: when they're running on the field kiting the musical staff in the sky and sprawling musical notes as they move. That's the serenade of love they've amplified and filled MIXXTOPIA with.

While this is the overarching concept of the album, in this MV there's a complementary story happening involving NMIXX and a lonely girl in a caravan. This girl is an NSWER and NMIXX are giving to her anything to make her happy in this empty world MIXXTOPIA still is.

Spreading the Heavy Serenade to the winds of MIXXTOPIA

The Girl

No, she's not Hanroro and neither a JYP trainee, she's an actress called Kim Yeonseo. Yes, in the past JYP cast trainees for small parts in the current groups' MVs, but the last time it happened was with NiziU members in Stray Kids' God's Menu in 2020, six years ago. Since that, K-pop companies kept their trainees well protected and secret. So the girl is almost certainly a paid actress. Anyway, her role is crucial for the lore!

Different time and space

She and NMIXX never interact. Even though they shared the same set, the only time they appeared in the same clip is when Jiwoo and Haewon are prepping for the big sound system and Yeonseo is listening to the vinyl she just got, unaware of each other. Actually, as she sits down she looks outside the caravan, where HaeWoo were fumbling. But one look is an event too small to base solid theories. Was she looking outside to maybe spot the people giving her the vinyl?

The caravan is her home without doubt. NMIXX never enter in the vehicle with the exception of Sullyoon during her vision, slightly opening the door to see the Yeonseo inside playing with Kyujin glass flower. The flower, the vinyl, the sound station: all things NMIXX did in front of her caravan that she discovers and rejoices, in front of her house, which is where traditionally serenades are sung, in front of your lover's house: Haewon gave her the vinyl and the Recorder with Heavy Serenade, after successfully gathering the musical notes that had been scattered throughout MIXXTOPIA. Regarding this scene, the girls rush to her caravan after amplifying Heavy Serenade in MIXXTOPIA and Bae looked for her inside the caravan, but she wasn't there, so once again Haewon had to just put the gift for her outside the caravan.

In the MV behind Haewon confessed "It must have reached her...? The 'Heavy Serenade' has reached her!" while looking at the ending scene. Did they expect to finally meet her after collecting all the notes and filling the world with their serenade? Sadly they do not meet, however Yeonseo is really reached by Heavy Serenade as she finds the Recorder (still working even if cracked) and listen to it with earphones. In the ending scene musical notes are snowing outside the caravan, is this SQU4D teasing the winter comeback?

As Haewon said in the MV behind, NMIXX and Yeonseo are on "different space and time" but also said "It's the same place, but we can't see each other, literally Interstellar". The wording is a bit strange but if you watch the video you understand what she means: they're both in the caravan location but on different dimensions, as it happens in the Interstellar movie.

>Quick Interstellar recap to understand this dimension/space/time thing: our Earth is inhospitable, so an astronaut is sent through a worm hole to gather data about a distant habitable planet, he fails but ancient space entities put him in a fourth dimension from where he can send messages to himself in the past and his daughter in such a way that he ends up in the wormhole, discovers the new Earth and her daughter can save him.

So, from the theory prompted by Haewon herself, it appears that NMIXX are on this fourth dimension, or simply on another parallel and superimposed dimension of MIXXTOPIA from where they can act and interact with the MIXXTOPIA dimension of the girl and thus recording its soundscape and giving it to her as a gift.

Same place, different time for NMIXX and the NSWER girl.

One of us

There's a special relationship between NMIXX and Yeonseo that justifies "all these scenes searching for a gift" for her and the activity in front of her caravan, what kind of relationship? Reflect for a moment on the caravan, why is she (and other people behind in the other caravans?) living on a mobile house? MIXXTOPIA is an empty world similar to reality, now blooming with life after NMIXX landed with a MMU full of NSWERs. NMIXX is for the exploration and there's a whole planet to discover and bring to life, so it's natural for such adventurers to be always moving, NSWERs as well. Or either, since they just landed, it's completely normal to have temporary houses like caravans, they will eventually build houses of bricks and concrete later. So Yes, Yeonseo, the girl on the caravan is us, NSWERs, receiving NMIXX love through music, album after album, while they explore MIXXPOP, the sounds of MIXXTOPIA, even if we can't meet we're still united through the music. This has been confirmed in the MV Reaction, where Yeonseo was labelled as "NSWER girl listening to the serenade" in the ending scene.

The Vinyl

The whole MV happens near the caravan, near the building, both near the shore and the field, which is just one big location. In reality these places are like 30 minutes by car in Okinawa Island in Japan, but the flowery grass give continuity from the meadow to the caravan field and the school courtyard. The only clip on a different setting is the vinyl shop where Bae finds Haewon's vinyl. But it was already given to Yeonseo. The most simple way to solve this paradox is that there are multiple copies of it and NMIXX, as the singers they are even in the lore, shared the music they gathered to everyone (on MIXXTOPIA?), which can be found in vinyl shops and gifted a copy to Yeonseo. In the MV Reaction it was revealed that the vinyl shop is famous in Japan and BaeLy went there to look for a record to give to the girl, of course an NMIXX LP. In the MV Behind it was revealed that all LP in the shop were NMIXX's, so they were actually browsing through their own discography to choose the perfect vinyl for the girl. So does this mean this place exists in MIXXTOPIA? Which was an empty world until their arrival? We maybe can justify this with the "empty ground that resembles reality" but it's a very large stretch. This is either a slip from the director or I didn't catch how the Vinyl shop ミュージック パンチ レコード in 2 Chome-22-32 Maejima, Naha, Okinawa, could be in an empty world beyond imagination.

Anyway, she receives the vinyl after NMIXX go to the shore with the listening devices and the mobile wind chime. Indeed, the clip after NMIXX running back to the caravan is Yeonseo running to take the vinyl, suggesting that she was waiting for the music record, thus she knows NMIXX and likes them as the NSWER she is.

Always Sullyoon

Why only Sullyoon could see Yeonseo? We known Sullyoon can see things other can't: in Simulation OUT (Stick Out era) she saw spirits and a white horse, then appeared in High Horse (Forward era), in See That? MV both herself and spirits of kids appeared. Finally now she sees many lights in the caravan camping and, intrigued by one inside the caravan, she saw Yeonseo. She must have a medium ability, in some way relatable to her doctor role. This fact corroborates Haewon's Interstellar theory that NMIXX and the girl are on parallel dimensions, and Sullyoon can see through them.

The Moon

The MOON has never been this close in NMIXX MVs. The other time a moon this big was seen was on Expergo Et Iris Super Ver. photobook, which was indeed supposed to be "over the rainbow" and thus in MIXXTOPIA already back then. I have mixed expectations about this giant heavy moon since from the debut they always hinted at it. Until now reaching MIXXTOPIA was compared to the Moon given the reference in New Frontier Declaration from JFK Apollo missions speech "We want to go there not because it's easy but because it's hard". But now we're on MIXXTOPIA and (another?) Moon is huge and closer than ever in this planet, which "resembles reality". There are no problems with MIXXTOPIA having a huge moon, but my doubt is: will NMIXX ever want to go on that Moon? or call it a day after terraforming MIXXTOPIA? In other words, will they be satisfied or keep exploring the MIXX space? Even in this MV the Moon has a great presence, well at least now we can easily tell if we're on MIXXTOPIA or not, just by looking at the sky.

Pioneers in MIXXTOPIA?

A question we never answered is: Are NMIXX the first to reach MIXXTOPIA? As far as we know Countless adventurers set out to find MIXXTOPIA to achieve their dreams. There were adventurers with malicious goals, others with goals of goodwill and some with peculiar but lovely goals. Among them also xxxx, the founder of Monopole. Did everyone fail before NMIXX? Probably yes, since NMIXX succeeded thanks to the IMPETUS of many NSWERs emotions. But also xxxx had a whole organization, Monopole, which supported him and began to pollute the MIXX. However when NMIXX landed the planet was empty and they brought it to life, so apparently here, they're the first. Maybe MIXXTOPIA is not a single planet but an entire portion of space, the one outside imagination boundaries. The huge moon is the proof: if we are on MIXXTOPIA, then is the moon still MIXXTOPIA? Reflect more on the sentence "NMIXX steps into MIXXTOPIA, a vast, empty ground that resembles reality, yet exists as a void.", seems like reality, exists as a void...

Heavy Serenade Performance Video & MCountdown Stage

The video is shot in a school in Seoul and it's a pretty classic setting. But there are some details that maybe hint at the lore. In the school gym setting there are big banners on the sides of the stage: "We were always blooming, our serenade finds you" and "Across time we bloom as one". In addition, at the end of the video Sullyoon and Haewon have a long high-five after the "festival" happened.

Why they "were"? And why "across time"? This is surely connected to Haewon's theory: "We" is definitely NMIXX since they talk about "our serenade" finding you, NSWERs. When did NMIXX record Heavy Serenade and when did it reach Yeonseo, our representative only now? Following Interstellar, if NMIXX are on this fourth dimension, they can move freely through time so past, present and future lose meaning as everything ever has already happened for them. That's why "across time" and that's why they refer to themselves in past tense and in present tense to us, because we are in the present but they ascended to the fourth dimension when they reached MIXXTOPIA.

I want to highlight that time is represented through all the different music formats: wind chimes from natural materials, written music, vinyl and gramophone, cassette tape player and modern earphones.

In their first stage of Heavy Serenade, on MCountdown, Lily narrated an intro very similar to the album synopsis.

Maybe the place we dreamed of never existed at all. But if we're together, even abandoned land can be turned into a land of life. The heartbeat of this land sounds just like ours. If you listen closely to the sound of this land you can hear our love clearly, just like a serenade. So let me play it for you.

Interestingly, here the land is "abandoned", but it might be just an example. If the land was really abandoned then infinite theories could be made on who lived there before and had to leave this utopia in such an hollow state.

Heavy Serenade MV teaser

At the end of the title track teaser Lily said a line not from any song in this mini-album. I'm not a native English speaker but what I hear is "Dear blue friend" and among other variations on the theme like Dear my friend, Teal blue flame, it's the most fitting. I clearly hear the "bl-" and the "-d" at the end. Considering that Lily is the communicator and in the Heavy Serenade had a quiver full of letters + the analogy of a homing pigeon, the "Dear friend" is realistic. The friend could easily be the NSWER girl in the MV, who NMIXX tried to reach with their music. The "Blue" could also be on point since it's a recurring color in NMIXX lore: Blue Valentine, the sea, the sky, the color of their eyes in Heavy Serenade.

I think the "Dear blue friend" is a teaser for this comeback, not the next because as I told you above, these words fit well with the current theme of reaching the girl in her dimension.

Break myself apart to make a one-and-only bouquet / Glassy serenade even if I'm clumsy, so what? || There's a reference to Confession of Midas girl, where Kyujin said "Fragments of memory linger in silence, waiting. The moment I reach for them, they shatter into pieces like brittle glass. Through the cracks, the light spills in. I chase its glow, stepping toward a new beginning." She worked hard to make such beautiful glass flowers, they're not perfect because she's clumsy, but they're unique and they're beautiful because thy're imperfect.

Through every spring and winter / Blooming once more, my heart + Even if we leave this earth / My heart will bloom again || These two verses are the same part and while one holds time, the other holds space. NMIXX(?) hearts will bloom in winter and even if they leave this planet, anywhere anytime. This because glass flowers don't wither, ths NMIXX's hearts.

Look at the petals, turned into lyrics / A melody you've already sung + Then I realize / You are the meaning of every flower + Look at us, turned into lyrics / A melody you've already sung || These verses are telling a story of flowers and music. NMIXX are gathering the sounds of MIXXTOPIA and its nature is being transformed into music, the "Heavy Serenade". The melody you've already sung is the heartbeat of the girls similar to the one of the planet. At last, they become one with the planet, turning themselves into lyrics. being the meaning of every flower is a beautiful image and in the lore could represent they managed to get every sound to fully represent MIXXTOPIA.

One breath could never hold it all / These words I have for you just overflow + jiwoo rap || Sullyoon says her words (of love?) are too many for a single breath, so Jiwoo overflows them with a single breather rap. Wonderful.

IDESERVEIT

It’s okay to wander, still on my path || Exploring MIXX is part of the plan, they reached MIXXTOPIA but there's a lot more to see and do, never stop.

Every step I take’s a map, there’s no more fence || The definition of MIXX was a space that grew as much as we imagined. So there are no fences here at all and neither maps as the territories are being created simultaneously.

Everything I was afraid of / Has somehow become just a small dot to me || Sullyoon was very afraid of continuing the journey towards MIXXTOPIA, fearing for the dangers of the unknown. Given the events in Crescendo we can't assure MIXXTOPIA was safe, however in Heavy Serenade everything seems fine. This could also be referencing to how she left all her worries down to FIELD and now on MIXXTOPIA she's not afraid of them anymore.

Different Girl

I know, maybe there’ll be no end, Andromeda / A Terra just for you, you can observe it || Andromeda Galaxy is the furthest visible object without using instruments. Anyway, this song is directed to NSWER, maybe to our representative in the MV. This earth (MIXXTOPIA) is for us.

Sometimes an alien / Or maybe a dino / Whatever you are / Be my bestie / Pull me closer strongly / Our worlds intertwining || Whatever you are, you're welcome in MIXXTOPIA. As NMIXX "decided to head to MIXXTOPIA, where everyone's diversity is respected!".

Superior

Stitching up my scars to make two wings / Toward the fast track above the horizon, off the road / The breath I let out is cold, the engine sound is a growl / Shake off the dust sitting on your wings || Wings and engines, I believe here they are talking about the MMU, the process Kyujin went through to build it. The cold breath might be Bae's one during the departure in Know About Me? The wings could be a simple analogy but could also be Haewon's wings, present in both Hard Boiled and Aurora Film and in Blue Valentine MV.

The more wе break, the more we’ll shine, like glass, us || Again a crystalline clear reference to Kyujin's confession.

(Now, here we are) We hit the sky, stepping over the dark night / Flying like we’re about to burst, to the end of that moon / Push harder, the booster inside my heart / Jumping over the space between the sky and sea || "To the end of that moon"! Is this "moon" an analogy for MIXXTOPIA or an hint for the new moon up there? The space between the sky and sea is canonically the MIXX: "Seven girls open their eyes to a nebulous world where the sky and the ocean melt into one another."

Gimme that map / We go to the clouds / Feel it suddenly, this bottomless fuel / Fearlessly, to the frontier, go || The frontier is the end of the MIXX, where MIXXTOPIA sits at.

LOUD

I'm Tantalus, can't help but reach out and touch || Tantalus was a king in greek mythology. He was punished by the gods for insulting the gods in many ways. He was destined to be always unsatisfied, in a pool of water, with a rock on his back, under a fruit tree. Thirsty and hungry, when he tried to drink the water, it would run away, when he tried to pick a fruit the branches would move away. Even though he had what he needed to satisfy his needs right in front, he couldn't reach them. Is this the feeling of NMIXX having the Moon (and MIXXTOPIA?) up there, but couldn't reach?

A little note before the end: let's keep an eye on ITZY because in their Motto MV there are roulottes, jellyfish, clouds, sea on fire and a castle. They are not following a structured storyline like NMIXX but we never know...

TL;DR

NMIXX lands on MIXXTOPIA, an empty planet at the edge of MIXX. They wander around collecting all the sounds of this awakening world, resonating with their heartbeats. With the gathered sounds they made a vinyl and a cassette and gave them to a NSWER representative as a gift to make her happy even though there's a communication issue, maybe they're on different dimensions. Anyway! All the world now is blooming with love, that's NMIXX Heavy Serenade. Did it reach the girl?

Outro

Since the girls revealed so much about the plot of Heavy Serenade MV I went full speculation mode. MIXXTOPIA is the place where dreams become reality so let's imagine without boundaries! The Interstellar Fourth Dimension theory is crazy, it was fun to try justifying Haewon's comment, I wonder if even the smallest part of it it's true lol. I deliberately omitted some details because there are not enough points to connect, I'll keep them in mind for future theories, for instance Kyujin's Star Fruit...

In any case, I hope you've enjoyed this deep analysis and the theories behind, even the slightest "A-ha! So true!" moment you have while reading this makes my work worthy. Album Caption

I will use the term "Album Caption" to name those phrases written on the more recent albums, narrating the current story, such as the following:

We finally arrived in MIXXTOPIA, but MIXXTOPIA wasn't what we had dreamed of. It was a place no different from reality. Just as utopia means a place that exists nowhere in this world. Maybe the place we imagined never existed at all. So, was I disappointed? No.

You're right beside me, And I'm right beside you. If we're together, even abandoned land can be turned into a land of life. The heartbeat of this land sounds just like ours. It keeps amplifying, growing deeper, becoming heavier and more solid.

If you listen closely to the sound of this land, you can hear our love clearly. Just like a serenade. So, let me play it for you. My heart, just as it is right now - beating as if it's about to burst, too big to hide, pouring out uncontrollably, so full it overflows.

It is confirmed that the planet where they landed in the Webtoon is MIXXTOPIA. Apparently, it's not the place they imagined and probably it never existed, but no problem: this land can become that utopia if we're together. Therefore, the desire to build their own MIXXTOPIA as they imagined is still valid. "It was a place no different from reality": They probably do not mean it's literally the same world/dimension, but rather it has the same current vibe, dull, barren, empty, flat, grey.

The sound heard in the webtoon was an heartbeat (an earthbeat? lol) and it's growing. As this comeback is heavily inspired and based on the music concept, NMIXX are pairing this sound and more things to their love and emotions. Water is always a must in NMIXX narrations: "Pouring out" and "overflows" are words that could be used while talking about water, fundamental to bring life to this abandoned land. In the webtoon the blue bird rain (heavy rain!) brought some, now it seems it will overflow with emotions and music.

NMIXX Love Poems - heavy.serenade.letter

In this Instagram profile made just for this poetry campaign, hand written poems about love were posted daily. Differently from past extra content such as the representative object of Blue Valentine or the IMPETUS love in Fe3O4: Forward, this looks more like a (un)common promotional campaign, not relevant to the lore, given the way it's presented. With so much text, it surely has no connections to the intricate and often hermetic lore. For the translations of the poems you can look in the comments.

Heavy Serenade Trailer Breakdown

This trailer shows different kinds of growing love portrayed by each NMIXX member, climaxing in a music ensemble, a heavy serenade. This trailer was accompanied by 6 Short videos carrying additional captions which explain the love represented and the girls' attitude towards it. Thankfully, many girls explained the concept in the BEHIND video, so I will report their words as well.

SULLYOON Everyone's lover, I'll give you everything

Sullyoon scene starts with her on a luxury car, but as she walks in the street she gives everything she own to passers-by. Embodying the Agape, her love is unconditional: she's loved by anyone because she gives all of herself to others and people can't do nothing but fall for her. Let's remember she's the Doctor, adding one more layer to the lore.

"My concept for today's solo cut is a girl who is loved by many people, a concept of sharing that love back! so in scene I just filmed I gave away the bracelet I was wearing gave away my earrings, my bag."

LILY Pigeon post, Love letter delivery. Keep the window open. I'm on my way to you

Lily scene starts with her on a windy roof, listening to music from a cassette player. Then she runs away with a quiver full of letters. On the roof again she transform into a flock of doves. Her love is either a distant love, seeing her sad longing face, or, as the Communicator she is, a love said out loud, shown through love letters or music records (a serenade!).

"I'm filming a scene that embodies my role as the communicator. Each member took on a different way of expressing love, mine is all about sending things out. My words are carried by the wind and delivered to the people I love. Later we'll have a mailbox and I express my love through letters just as a communicator would. Also later on I transform into doves. You could say the dove is the communicator's bird. [pointing at the quiver] This is a mailbox full of love, it holds letters to be sent to the people I love [real fan letters are inserted in the arrows]."

HAEWON The growth of Eros. My Psyche, you made me grow up

Haewon scene starts with her in a house, then outside, pouring water on herself. She then spills water on a glass, which overflows. Surrounded by pots and glasses, a projector is projecting flowers on Haewon. Her love needs care, attention to grow, like a vase plant.

"I'm a girl starving for love because I grow and flourish on love. so I'm probably going to be expressed through the metaphor of a plant that needs sunlight and rain to grow. I just filmed a scene expressing overflowing love."

JIWOO Puppy, Always waiting. Don't keep me waiting too long

Jiwoo scene is her happy playing with dogs in a room and sad looking for the owner (as if she were the puppy) in the house to play more. She's representing the love our pets have for us while we're away or, the feeling of missing someone and the desire to be with them soon again.

"Today's concept is me being just like a puppy, a girl longing to be loved."

BAE White chocolate, So transparent. Am I being too honest?

Bae's scene represent the love at first sight and the fixation it causes. In a room full of sculptures, she has eyes only for that Venus bust. The same concept is portrayed with the spotlight pointing at Bae in different places. Giving White Chocolate is an asian tradition where, if someone gave you chocolate on Valentine's Day and your feelings are mutual, you can give them white chocolate the month after to confess the mutual love. That's why she's transparent, because her love for that statue it's visible.

"Today Bae is a white chocolate girl, so transparent, that my feelings of love are completely visible. When I touch the plaster cast my body actually becomes transparent. The plaster cast was white chocolate."

KYUJIN Tsundere, I can't hide it anymore. I can't stop thinking about it. Why am I like this?

Kyujin scene has her watching someone she liked behind the blinds of a window, to avoid revealing herself and her love feelings. Like a Tsundere, she doesn't want to show her emotions, but they're too big to hide. The room full of candles represents her state, she tries to blow one off, but it sparks up again. In addition, she has a finger dancing version of herself, which is trying to press against a stress ball, but it springs back. So, in the auditorium, alone she dances to show off her never expressed before feelings, gradually, to the point of joining the other girls in their heavy serenade.

"[in candle room set]: Very composed and reserved and mysterious kind of girl and in that room of the heart over there were so many candles, all those candle flames represent and express my heart, my burning love. I just blew them out because i wanted to hide it because i'm a tsundere girl after all. I wanted to hide it, but what happened? they lit back up! So I wasn't able to hide my feelings, this love of mine can't be hidden, these flames expressed that love. The dancing Kyujin gets pressed down and then springs back up again. Check out my bright and sparkling eyes gazing at someone I adore."

"[in the auditorium] This scene is about feelings of love that I've been keeping hidden inside and letting them out just a little in an empty space not fully. But just a tiny bit, a space where I can let those feelings out little by little."

Even though these scenes are connected to the NMIXX roles and represent NMIXX attitudes, their actions are not happening in the NMIXX lore. We know they're now in MIXXTOPIA and left the real world, FIELD, where cars, schools, sculptures, blinds exist, for an empty world they will create for themselves. So, no, Sullyoon is not really giving away all her things, Haewon is not a plant and Jiwoo is not a dog: this trailer represents the theme of heavy serenade, how love is expressed by each character.

Heavy Serenade CONCEPT PHOTOS

For this comeback two photosets have been made: the HEAVY version sees NMIXX in a house causing mischief and a smaller version of them helping out.

• Lily dropped a big grocery store shopper and made a mess, tiny Lily helps her handing out a fallen dog plushie.
• Haewon lit many candles on a pedestal and are melting, tiny Haewon is embracing one, protecting it.
• Sullyoon is about to crush strawberries on the floor, tiny Sullyoon saves one from the rampage.
• Bae is overwhelmed by books, tiny Bae keeps searching with magnifying lens.
• Jiwoo is leaning on a messy pile of clothes, tiny Jiwoo is putting them on a laundry basket.
• Kyujin is spilling water from glasses on a table, tiny Kyujin is trying to avoid more spilling.

"Love - once it grows, it won't stay hidden." This is the caption from the HEAVY concept photos post, hinting at the fact that the tiny NMIXX are doing their best for love and, even though they're small, their love is visible and growing.

For the SERENADE version the girls were pictured on a musical staff set, posing between musical notes on the musical sheet. "We can bloom a colorful serenade in a colorless world" caption circles back to the Album Caption, where they declared the goal to turn the abandoned land into a land full of life.

Heavy Serenade WEBGAME

A special website game was launched. In this game you play the MMU spaceship through meteorites and stone walls to collect 6 colored notes. This text appears after you win:

We gathered the musical notes that had been scattered throughout MIXXTOPIA. Then the once-silent MIXXTOPIA slowly began to fill with sounds that resembled the beating of our hearts. At first, the sound was barely a whisper. But it began to amplify, grow deeper, grow heavy, and become solid, until it finally turned into a serenade of love. What once felt like abandoned land gradually transformed into a space full of life. "Let me play it for you. My heart, just as it is right now - beating as if it's about to burst, too big to hide, pouring out uncontrollably, so full it overflows."

Then you can leave a message to reveal a tile of an hidden picture of the girls.

Mostly similar to the Album Declaration, this text adds details on the sounds: at first the heartbeats could be barely heard, then they amplified. This is something they caused with their presence there, probably gathering those musical notes. I'm not sure that's canon or it's just for the game, but for sure they're actively bringing this world to life.

Blue Valentine Stage recovering the unstable IMPETUS?

Crescendo MV Breakthrough

Crescendo Music Video takes place in MIXXTOPIA. The world is still mostly empty, the only elements of color is the grass on the ground, some water, a hazy sky. The beginning start with the end: Jiwoo is rocking Sullyoon on a swing hanged on a tree, the only one in the world for now.

The real first scene is "Jiwoo waking up in the CPR Room", quoted directly from the MV BEHIND. This room is an aseptic grey room with a transparent wall under ground. In this room there's only a bed with white filaments. Jiwoo, dressed in white bandages, is on this bed moving her "body around so much like someone sleepwalking". She opens her eyes and, given the several frames in different positions in the room, much time is passing. However, seen from the outside of the glass, from Bae, Kyujin and Lily's perspective, Jiwoo is completely still, laying on the bed, with a white alien organic "respirator" in her mouth, let's call the material it's made of "Biocrystal" from now. The three girls outside the room are wearing similar white clothes, Lily is also "wearing some really unique wings" of the same Biocrystal material of Jiwoo's respirator. Let me report what she said in the behind "this is a respirator, air comes out through here and I breathe through it, it's like having lungs on the outside".

They're watching carefully Jiwoo sleeping. Lily then moves away from the window and, wearing a respirator like Jiwoo, reaches a puddle in this underground cave. She moves her hand and ripples form on this puddle, transitioning to another puddle on the surface of the planet.

The puddle on the surface is close to Sullyoon, and it looks like she was touching/watching it as well. On her hands, Biocrystal flowers are shimmering. Here, Sullyoon is dressed with a white coat. She puts her hands into a CPR-like position on the ground and from the point of view of the puddle we see a column of bubbles for a very long depth. In the Behind, Sullyoon talked about this scene as "I was at a well, like pulling something out of the water". Jiwoo, dressed in a different, more casual outfit, the "Surface" one, is thrown in dark waters. From now on let's call the white bandages clothes "Underground" and the trendy clothes "Surface". The camera returns into the puddle in the cave, with Lily turning her head towards the CPR room, where Jiwoo is sleeping, to check if something happened. Jiwoo is "looking back at Lily" but she's actually still sleeping with the Biocrystal respirator, the difference now is that it's very bright.

Surface Haewon is in the dark, lighting her surroundings with a flashlight. Surface Bae is also with a flashlight in the dark. Surface Kyujin joins Bae. We can safely suppose these three are together, having all surface clothes, flashlights and behaving in the same way. In the dark, Underground Lily with the Biocrystal wings is spotted by the light. Sleeping Jiwoo is also spotted by a flashlight, her respirator brightens up. In the dark, on the rocky terrain of the cave, a Biocrystal snail excretes a transparent liquid, bioluminescent mushrooms change shape and other releases bright spores. Is it due to the surface girls bringing light down there?

On the surface, Bae is trying to hammer a stake (?) in the ground with a mallet. This metal thing is definitely not something they found randomly but they made it, in particular there's a nail and a chrome material revealed by the cracks made by the mallet. This stake is connected to Surface Kyujin's long braided hair, she's aware of it and doesn't even blink, did she set up this thing? In a small semi-basement, Underground Haewon is laying with a Biocrystal on her nose. A window to the outside shows that the stake Bae's hammering created some cracks, which look more like roots rooting in the soil. Haewon's Biocrystal starts glowing bright and the roots planted by Bae become white as well. [1 minute later] Underground Lily appears inside the room, embracing Haewon. Both their respirators are glowing.

Inside the CPR Room, Underground Sullyoon is inside the room, embracing Jiwoo on the bed. She takes "out Jiwoo's respirator" and finally wakes her up. Jiwoo takes a big deep breath, as if she held it for a long time, or never breathed before. In the next scene, the two have their hand interlocked and Sullyoon has her thumb in her mouth, probably Jiwoo is doing the same, the Biocrystal flower on Sullyoon's hand glows. Are they sucking their thumb sharing the same Biocrystal power as scuba divers shares their oxygen tank?

Jiwoo is alone in the room again. The glass wall is now wet and this humidity is rising upwards. A 3D transparent model of Underground Jiwoo glows, breathes and rises upward, like if she's ascending. [some clips after] While still having their hands interlocked but resting, Sullyoon stands up and pushes Jiwoo on the bed forcefully. The camera is upside down and the glass wall cracks as Jiwoo falls in the bed, which now is upwards. Surface Jiwoo ascends in the surface world. The other 5 girls watch her from the ground around her.

On the surface, everyone is having a "Tug of war without Jiwoo", with Haewon being the first in line, the Leader of course. The other side of this rope is really high and the member are also looking up. At some point the other side of the rope is soooo high the 5 girls are floating in the sky, Bae and Kyujin are literally skydiving.

The video ends with a big tree growing its green crown on the ground. Around it all members in Surface clothes: Sullyoon on the swing being rocked by Jiwoo, Bae standing with her mallet, the stake is not visible anymore, Kyujin still sitting and talking with Lily and Haewon holding the rope, wrapped around the tree.

The aftermath of Jiwoo's Ascension

Crescendo Lyrics Analysis

As you may have understood, this EP is heavily inspired by classical music. From the photo concept, to the scheduler, to the lyrics of this song. Crescendo is written on musical sheets in some section to tell the musician to gradually increase the volume of intensity of the instrument, its symbol also appears on the scheduler. There, more musical terms appear: mf, mp and ff are all markings that tell how to interpret the music and how loud play the music: basically we start mezzo piano (softly), then mezzo forte (half loud) and towards the Heavy Serenade release we go fortissimo (very loud). Enough with the terms, let's start with the lyrics.

The background fades away, just the two of us, our universe / Starlight, a silent choir, drowning in your deep, dark eyes || In this remote planet, only NMIXX and NSWERs are there. The stars are like eyes in the dark sky.

Took away my metronome / I'm deep in shallow || This is already the second comeback rich with oxymorons: Blue Valentine (it should be red), Heavy Serenade (it should be light), Deep in Shallow, you can't be deep in shallow waters. So what does it means? That this love (or situation) even though it just started (shallow) we/they are too invested (deep) already. "Took away my metronome" can be translated "I can't tell how much time passes when I'm with you" since it's an instrument that allows to keep the tempo, the beat of a song.

A romantic fairytale, happy ending, it may not be / But it's our fate to choose each other || Basically every other NMIXX journey: a beautiful story until they fail, nevertheless they keep reuniting and restart together, as it's destined to be like that.

This burning heart goes higher, overflowing with desire || Burning hearts and overflows are recurring themes in NMIXX songs and lore.

(You're here for me) / (I'm here for ya) || The same thing written in the Album Caption.

You're my conductor, be my drummer, allegro or I can Lento for ya || More music references: the conductor is the orchestra director and the drummer keeps the tempo. This tempo can be allegro, fast paced, or lento, slow paced. You decide which one, as in a relationship, thing can happen fast or slow.

Crescendo MV Elaboration

Surface and Underground: Clothes and Movements between

Lily is first seen in Surface clothes at the tug of war. Jiwoo is first seen in surface clothes when diving in the water and then only after the ascension. So before those moment, it's safe to assume they've always been underground. Indeed, from there, Lily's first action is to communicate with Surface Sullyoon to perform the CPR.

After the CPR, Sullyoon teleports directly inside the CPR room with Jiwoo in Underground clothes. We don't know if the glass wall could be opened, probably not, but still, everyone stayed behind except her, which has been seen only inside it. Same thing happens to Lily into Haewon's basement: she teleported there after the respirator resonated with the roots planted by Bae. Did she localized Haewon through the mycelium network?

Since Bae's stake disappeared after the Haewon's basement clip after rooting white Biocrystals, did that stake became the tree? During Surface Sullyoon CPR it wasn't there and she explicitly said she "was at a well, like pulling something out of the water", and surely trees don't come out from water so she was not the one who planted it. Regarding her words, "pulling out" seems incoherent with the clip after where Jiwoo falls in the waters, which is instead pushed in... anyway, it's clear that besides Sullyoon CPR, the only other action on the surface happening before the tug of war is Bae hammering that stake, so if someone planted a tree, Bae is that one.

Sullyoon is the only one that goes inside the CPR Room because she either created and/or travelled through the well above the room from the surface. In any case, once there, her outfit changed into Underground. Everyone, once Underground changed outfit. The only possible moment of transition is during HaeBaeKkyu exploration: in that scene we see both grassy terrain under Haewon and Kyujin and rock terrain under the snail and mushrooms.

The Rope

Regarding the rope, while one end is in Kyujin's hands during the tug of war, from the last clip it's clear the other side was knotted around the tree. However, the 5 girls start pulling something already high, and it can't be the tree since the rope would at a much lower angle. In the tug of war scene the elements that lead us to the answer are:

• Jiwoo wasn't present.
• The 5 girls were looking upward and pulling.
• The rope went so high the girls reached the sky.

Let's suppose the other end was on the tree, how could it move the rope so high, while being like, tall only 4-5 times Jiwoo? Maybe during that game the tree has really reached a sky-level altitude? I think they would have showed us something that cool. So no, even though the rope is knotted around the tree, the other end is not there.

Let's suppose the other end was on Jiwoo. She's stuck in the CPR room, but at this stage Sullyoon already CPRed Jiwoo and removed her respirator if we follow the order of the clips. So logically now Jiwoo should be ascending (remember the transparent glowing 3D model). We can justify the fact that Jiwoo is being pulled out from the water well/CPR Room with the rope and the tree could have been used as a pulley, but it's hard to understand why her ascension made her and her teammates reach the sky. What's the reason behind such heights reached?

An evil theory born from the last clip of the MV sees Haewon wanting to take down the tree with the rope she's still holding. I don't know guys, this would be very strange and I wouldn't know how to justify it.

The Biocrystal

Let's discuss for a moment the characteristics of this Biocrystal:

• It's transparent and bioluminescent. When lit by other sources, it brightens up.
• Its presence is mostly underground. The only exception is Sullyoon's hand with the flowers, which however, are still plants that grows from the ground.
• Apparently it helps breathing Lily, Jiwoo and Haewon. The other members are unaffected.
• Snail, mushrooms and probably also Jiwoo (if we look at the transparent 3D model clip) can be made of this material.

Biologically speaking, it doesn't look like a parasite and neither a virus, maybe a fungus. For those who watched Avatar 3, Spider, a human who cannot breathe Pandora's air had his biology changed by a mycelium endosymbiont. Maybe it's something in between also on MIXXTOPIA.

Lily has the most complex Biocrystal, complete of wings and a respirator with "lungs on the outside". This advancement might be due to her communication skills, that allowed her to achieve a deeper connection with this thing. Due to the complexity of her Biocrystal apparatus and being found there from HaeBaeKkyu, it means she has been exposed to it for the longest time. We can also say this Biocrystal is something alive and organic, as it performs some kind of chemical reactions allowing Lily, Haewon and Jiwoo to breathe underground, probably also the rest of the girls but it's not as explicit.

It must be noted that also Underground Bae and Kyujin have small crystals around their eyes and eyebrows. Yes, these are not respirators but they're the only ones having such things and missing other Biocrystals. So they must be something related. Kyujin said in the BEHIND her (and Bae's too at this point) outfit and make up was "pale and cold tone with a kind of suffocating theme, make-up almost nothing". Pale, cold tone, suffocating, no make-up, underground, without a respirator...

What if the Biocrystal respirator is needed to breathe instead of underground, underwater? Think of it for a second: Sullyoon communicates with Lily through a puddle, Jiwoo falls into dark waters, Sullyoon performs a CPR, which is something you do after saving someone from drowning (through a well!), Jiwoo's room after Sullyoon removed her respirator got wet and before ascending, the glass wall broke. The girls outside the room have a suffocating pale cold tone. We all have seen the last panels of the Webtoon where Haewon presses her ear on the soil and water slowly submerges her and the whole planet after. We know how much NMIXX and water are linked together.

The MV revolves around the awakening and liberation of Jiwoo from that room and respirator. Let's not forget Haewon, she's in a underground room with a respirator as well.

The Awakening of Haewon

TL;DR: (possible) MV Events Reconstruction

Haewon, Bae, Kyujin and Sullyoon are on the surface of MIXXTOPIA. The first three go underground to search for Jiwoo and Lily. Bae and Kyujin find Lily with the Biocrystal wings and the CPR Room with Jiwoo sleeping. Haewon somehow got in the basement, ending in a state similar to Jiwoo.

Jiwoo doesn't wake up. With Bae and Kyujin, Lily communicates with Sullyoon on the surface asking for help. Sullyoon somehow enters the CPR Room and manages to awaken Jiwoo. Jiwoo can now ascend (through Sullyoon's well?).

Meanwhile, Bae and Kyujin, after discovering the powers of this Biocrystal, plant a stake that roots Biocrystals in the soil, awakening Haewon. Through the Biocrystal mycelium network Lily finds Haewon and rescues her. That stake grows into a big tree.

The 5 members set up a tug of war to bring out Jiwoo from the CPR Room. For some reason they all get launched into air.

NMIXX is now happy together in MIXXTOPIA.

Discussion and Issues

An eventual prologue could see everyone but Sullyoon drowning in the deep waters of MIXXTOPIA. This Biocrystal mycelium somehow keep them alive underwater and one by one they save each other thanks to Lily's communication through the mycelium network.

There are some plot holes in this sequence of events which I cannot explain well:

• Why Haewon ended up in the basement? Did she really got lost in the dark while exploring with Bae and Kyujin?
• How can Sullyoon have Biocrystal powers to perform the CPR if she has never went underground as HaeBaeKkyu did when exploring? Ok, she has Biocrystals only on her hands and she uses them only to perform the CPR so maybe it's something she received with Lily's help.
• If Haewon ends up like Jiwoo, why Jiwoo's liberation is so much more complex, or on the contrary, why Haewon's liberation is so "easy"? Jiwoo has a much greater room with even a bed, Haewon is lying on colds rock.
• Why does everyone launches in the air? I doubt it's just a cinematic thing. Jiwoo's ascension is justified, but everyone else getting dragged by her?

The adaptation process to the mycelium (or the removal?) requires time and it's clearly represented with Jiwoo in the CPR Room, the last one to adjust to it. We can also see filaments quite similar to those from Avatar 3 on the bed, maybe it was the inspiration. The quote "Don't keep me waiting too long" from Jiwoo's Heavy Serenade trailer fits quite nice here. By the tug of war moment, everyone but Jiwoo adapted to the Biocrystal.

Connections to other Videos

This is not the first time Jiwoo is saved by Sullyoon: it happened also in the previous journey, in Outsider Club, at the shore after the shipwreck. Not only love but also hate: in Paradox of Love, probably happening already here in MIXXTOPIA, at first they love each other, then they fight. At the end of Crescendo we are at the Love stage, but the Hate one might have been already happened in the MMU (see the Webtoon) or might happen in the next future.

Regarding Paradox of Love, also Kyujin and Haewon have a reference: there Haewon buried Kyujin underground, here it's Bae, assisted by Kyujin, who freed her from underground. I'm expecting more and more references to this film as it is probably set in the near future of MIXXTOPIA, being the tree planted by Bae much higher and the terrain has more hills and covered in flowers than now.

As seen in See That? MV, apparently Sullyoon can really travel through matter: a TV then and a well now, allowing her to reach Jiwoo inside the CPR room.

It's the third time NMIXX use flashlights: the first was back in Sense Break Awake, where Jiwoo and Kyujin were following each other between bedsheets, the second was in Exploring Fundamental Fear, when the girls explored that abandoned school and Kyujin scared everyone out. Regarding that film, Kyujin was wearing the same necklace that is now wearing Bae here in Crescendo. It can't be just a prop reuse, there's something behind.

The snail also appeared in the Spinnin' On It MV, amidst the cake/paint fight. For the moment I doubt it has a crucial role in the events, but it surely represents some values already discussed in the dedicated [THEORY]. Here it just demonstrated the Biocrystal can affect also entire animals, for now all linked to earth.

Outro

As promised, there have not been heavy lore lookbacks in this [THEORY]. With my analysis I hope I have cleared some doubts you might have had, even though I may have raised new ones more than before hehe. Thanks to the success of Blue Valentine, many new NSWERs joined and showed interest in the lore, thus new and various theories appeared, bringing fresh ideas to the discussion. I hope my works have helped them studying the past lore, probably with too much rigor but that's what I personally would love to read when deep diving into some niche topics.

In my opinion, the next lore content will see NMIXX exploring and terraforming a little more MIXXTOPIA, in a mostly bright mood, but there will be an issue than will turn things to a darker tone. This is my humble prediction.
