Rent vs Buy. MIA to BOS
I’m relocating to Boston later this summer and trying to figure out the smartest move for transportation. I’ll already live in the Miami area without a car, and my current thought is to buy something in South Florida and drive it up to Boston with my stuff.
Originally I was planning to do a one-way rental and then buy a car once I got to Massachusetts, but the more I think about it, the more buying first seems like the better move financially and logistically. South Florida inventory and pricing seem better than Boston, and I’d rather not arrive in a new city and immediately have to rush into car shopping. It also seems like it would make more sense to use the drive to get familiar with the car I’m actually going to own.
Right now I’m leaning toward CarMax because it seems simpler and less stressful than dealing with traditional dealerships while also trying to coordinate a move.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or am I overlooking something obvious? Also curious if buying in Florida and registering later in Massachusetts ends up being a major headache.
