Do I drop out of this community theatre production?

Hi all,

I recently tried to get involved with my local community theatre because I'm fairly new to my city and looking to meet more people with similar interests around my age (20-30ish). I got the lead role in a one-act play, and only upon attending the online table read found out that the rest of the cast (4 others) consists of middle-aged and elderly white men. For context, I am a 23-year-old black lesbian. I was also cast as a middle-aged mixed-race Indigenous woman, which was also.... an interesting choice. I find acting quite fun, but the script we're working with is pretty boring and is mostly 20 minutes of my character sitting down, reciting her entire life story (with intervening questions from another character). I was also unable to read the script prior to accepting the role (the auditions were for four one-act plays, broadly, with only synopses given of each). The director is also completely new to theatre (and directing, although that is less important) and seems to be approaching the role with a strange vibe...

As a person who never quits anything or resigns from obligations, my instinct is to go ahead with this commitment, since it is only one and a half months of rehearsals. That said, my time is limited (I'm a full-time grad student), and it seems silly to invest my free time into an activity where I won't be meeting the goals I set out to meet (making friends with similar interests and participating in a fun production). I'm also worried that stepping out will reflect poorly on me, in the case that I want to participate in future productions in any capacity.

Does anyone have any advice?
