Dyed hair and headshots

Hello people of Reddit, iId like your thoughts…

I am a novice actor starting to look for work and roles in both theatre and film projects (with access mostly local indie projects at the moment). I am aware that an important part of submitting materials for auditions and casting calls is including a headshot. I have also read that having dyed/unusually colored hair is frowned upon in this business and may put one at a disadvantage casting-wise.

However, I really dislike my natural hair color and have been heavily dying my hair different colors for six years now. I know I need to get a headshot if I want to find work and I’m willing to dye my hair for roles, but I also want to know if I should just pick one color (ie: green) and stick with it for a while so I don’t have to get multiple headshots for every time I change it (I don’t have a ton of money) and avoid going back to my natural hair color.

- Is this a similar situation to having tattoos in the workplace where in older generations it was considered unprofessional but now it’s becoming less of an issue?

- Is this a case-by-case basis depending on each casting team?

- I’ve seen this topic vaguely addressed every once in a while and an article here or there, but I’d like to directly ask real people what their thoughts and experiences are with this.

Thank you!

Note: I recently just dyed my hair for a role and it will probably take a bit to get back to the color I want to present normally (Black to green).

Hello, I am playing Charles Vane in a play a friend of mine wrote about the Flying Gang (it’s really fantastic show actually).

I have been doing much historical research about not only Vane, but the Flying Gang themselves. I know Vane was sadistic, intelligent and a bit of a pyromaniac, but what I can’t find is any specific description of if he had a signature flag and what that might be. Do any of y’all know?

I’d love to have any other unusual tidbits of information and or reading recommendations about the flying gang if anyone has suggestions.

Thanks! 🏴‍☠️
