End of degree project, metal bass research

Hi all basically I'm finishing my music degree and it is required that I do a research project. My project is about six string bass and death metal. I wanted to get a feel for this community and be able to reference data from real musicians for the purpose of guiding the substance of my project.

Basically the purpose is to find out what people think are the most important techniques and practice habits for a newcomer to Bass and the death metal genre. I'll take some of these answers and create practice videos for educational purposes.

So if you have some spare time I'd appreciate anyone who can reply here and answer some questions.

  1. Introduce yourself name / background - (gigging experience, musical credentials, etc)

  2. What instruments do you play?

  3. What is it about death metal that sets itself apart from other genres?

  4. What techniques do you think are crucial for Death metal playing? (or other metal genre's) And in particular for the bass ? Is there a lot of crossover between guitar and bass for this genre ? *

  5. What are some pitfalls that bassists can fall into when attempting to play in metal?

  6. If you were starting your musical journey again what would you focus on? How would your approach change?

  7. What is your number one piece of advice for someone integrating into a band dynamic from a bedroom musician?

  8. How do you come up with ideas for your instrument?

  9. How frequently do you practice and for how long?

  10. What advice do you have for someone switching from 4 string bass to a 5 or 6 string?

  11. Any other thoughts on this top feel free to mention here.

Thanks for your time 😄
