How much H2O is OK when steaming?
I have a GCP E24 with no internal mods (though I think a Gaggimate is in my near future). I make lattes for my wife and usually use lactose free 2% milk. I rarely get the consistency right. So I did an experiment to see how much water I’m likely getting in my milk during steaming.
I weighed 160g of water in my pitcher, purged the wand for a few seconds, and went to steaming the water for roughly the same time as I’d do for milk. Then weighed the pitcher and had gained about 30g of water. I repeated the following day with almost identical results.
Does anyone know if this is normal? Is it perhaps watering down my milk and making it difficult to get the right consistency?
When I purge before steaming, there is frequently some sputtering of water with the steam. Should I be purging longer to get where it’s only steam coming from the wand? I’d guess that might be a long time (>20sec) and makes a mess.
Any advice is appreciated!
