Pinning my first dragonfly, but I see this gross brown stuff leaking out. What do I need to do in the process to prevent that in the future? I've only got 90% isopropyl alcohol. Can I inject the thorax with it? Or is there no saving it?
The paper towel is saturated in water and rubbing alcohol, but not dripping wet. The insects are on lids with ventilation holes from old feeder insect containers. The container itself does not have ventilation. This is first time rehydrating, I've been collecting for a while with intentions of eventually pinning.
Currently in the porch light outside. I saw the nest before and wasn't sure if it was active. There was a much smaller wasp with similar reddish brown coloration that I assume is a drone on the railing, and thought I'd look at the nest again. Saw this big gal on it. Is it a queen or a different wasp species? Also should I remove or let them be? We don't go out on the porch much anyways, I just go out to water the plants. Also, I know next to nothing about wasps.
Got a drop spindle and some fiber at my local fiber fair! So excited to see improvement on consistency. Since its so rough looking, I intend to use it for accessories and jewelry for my viking renfaire costume!
Found in a biological sample from Caney Creek in Breathitt County KY. Assuming its some type of diptera. Even my boss isn't sure what it is. Check out the eyelashes!
