RN under TN visa

Hi! I’m looking for advice from a cross-border tax CPA. I’m a Canadian citizen living in Ontario and will soon be working as an RN in New York under TN status.
I’m mainly trying to understand my 2026 tax residency and filing obligations in both Canada and the U.S., including how my Canadian TFSA, FHSA, RRSP, investments, and bank accounts would be treated once I start working in the U.S.
Thank you 🙏

TN Visa application at Niagara Border

Hi everyone, I’m a Canadian citizen and a Registered Nurse in Ontario and New York. I’m planning to apply for TN status as an RN at the Niagara-area U.S. port of entry.
I already have a U.S. RN license and a job offer from a U.S. employer. My employer is also preparing the TN support/employment letter.
I’m trying to make sure I have everything prepared for the border. My understanding is that I should bring:
Valid Canadian passport/proof of Canadian citizenship
U.S. RN license
Employment offer letter
Employer TN support letter describing the RN position, duties, salary, and length of employment
BSN diploma and transcripts from the Philippines
Credential evaluation for my Philippine BSN
VisaScreen certificate
Resume/CV
Any other nursing licenses or registration documents
TN application fee/payment
Evidence supporting my temporary intent
For anyone who has recently applied for TN status as an RN at the Niagara border, is there anything else you would recommend bringing, particularly regarding the support letter and foreign BSN credential evaluation?
Thank you!
