A cry for help from an American in dire need of better content!
Are there any concise guides, books, or other resources for people who grew up in Low-Context cultures, (e.g. American or other Anglo cultures) like myself, who are interested in learning about the context clues that other High-Context cultures (e.g. Spain) are expecting and expressing through the sometimes subtle actions of life?
I am spending most of my weekends with a US based circle of Spanish friends and I would like to feel more confident and included. I look very fondly of the time I’ve spent in Madrid and I would love to happily live in my partner’s pueblo someday. I’m the purest of Spanish posers. I really admire the collective love and respect that I feel and really just want to conceptualize those attitudes into a more meaningful output than what I can learn from the average “Did you know, in Spain, they …” video from YouTube or TikTok.
I would love it if there was a book in English that had a methodology for building context awareness in Spain, not just the rote memorization of all cultural rules.
Any thoughts and considerations are appreciated even if it means that I still have to learn through time and experience.
¡Mil gracias!
