Visiting my Brazilian boyfriend's family for the first time (gifts?)
(Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this!!)
I'm from Dublin, Ireland, and I met my boyfriend (from São Paulo) at university in September. In a few weeks, I'll be going with him to meet his family. I'll be there for three weeks, and he wants me to meet a lot of his extended family for the first time, as well as his parents and brother, who I've already talked to over facetime. Neither of our families is particularly well off (he's lucky to be here on a partial scholarship), but his family was very excited for me to meet them and were so kind that they sent me a voucher to help pay for the plane tickets. I'm very grateful and have already told them, but I would love to buy gifts for his mother and father as a thank you. Would I also like to buy gifts for his grandparents?
As well as this, because I’m meeting his extended family when I go over, my parents want me to bring him to my grandparents. One side of my family will be fine but on the other side my grandparents were in the IRA and this is immediately obvious by walking into their house because the walls are covered in “memorabilia“. Do you think he’ll be understanding about this? (I’ll probably warn him about it but I haven’t brought it up yet because even though I love my gran and granda i am a little embarrassed!!)
Thank you and sorry for the long post!!
