Baffled by lab results

Putting an update here at the top. Looks like the very unusual lipid results may be related to issues with kidney function, which are also present in the labs. This apparently can cause worsening lipid results, including spiked triglycerides. Working with my doctor.

I’m not asking for medical advice here, but just need to vent because I’m scared. I’ve been on Mounjaro and Jardiance since mid-May. I’ve lost 44 lbs of the 96 I wish to lose. I currently weigh 202.

My labs in May showed cholesterol 197 and triglycerides of 318. Fasting glucose was 172.

You’d think all of that would improve, right? Now, cholesterol is 267 and triglycerides are 428!!!! LDL can’t be calculated and direct LDL is still pending, as is A1C. Fasting glucose did improve. It was 100.

How can this be?! I track every last morsel that touches my lips. Carbs are consistently below 70 per day (total, not net.) I’m very careful to avoid much saturated fat. I focus on lean protein and fiber. I’m doing what I’m supposed to do!

I’m terrified my doctor won’t believe me. I’m terrified my health is worsening. I’m truly awestruck I’m a bad way at these results.

There are some other really concerning results related to liver and kidney function that have me freaked out, too. Kidney function, eGFR, was normal in May and is only 15 now.

Obviously I’m going to see my doctor about all this, but I’m just freaking out right now.

Question about Jardiance and insurance

Today I picked up my Jardiance for the second time. It is a three month supply, and I was charged $29.99. But, my claim through insurance says my copay was $75, and was considered paid. So I looked back at the claim for the first time a I filled it. Again for a three month supply. Again, the claim said my copay was $75 and was paid. But the pharmacy only charged me $29.99 that time as well. I’m still pretty new to much of this, so hoping someone might be able to explain how the pharmacy is charging me less than the insurance claim says is my copay. Thanks.

Today’s good doctor appointment

Back in May, I met with my new doctor for the first time. I hadn’t seen a doctor in a few years. My systolic bp was 204. My A1C was 8.3 and I weighed 246 pounds. He started me on meds for hypertension as well as Metformin. He asked me to come back in two weeks, following blood work. At our second apt, he removed Metformin due to side effects and added Mounjaro and Jardiance.

Today I saw him again. He was very happy with my results so far. Systolic BP dropped to 150. We reviewed my CGM numbers. Blood sugar looks to be on a much better track for the next A1C test. And I’ve lost 23 pounds. I was very excited, and super happy to see that he is good with the progress so far.

I was very resistant to seeing a doctor. I did not want to take medications. Now, I kinda wish I’d done this all sooner. But I’m really glad things are getting better.

Blood sugar spike when doing physical labor

I’m pretty new here and recently started taking medications for type 2. I take Mounjaro and Jardiance. I am wearing a CGM. Blood sugars have been nice and stable since starting the meds. But this weekend, we are doing a landscaping project in our backyard. It‘s requiring me to spread heavy rocks with a rake. I notice that I have gotten a sugar spike of about 50 points shortly after starting the work on both days. The only thing I’ve ingested both days was a Glucerna shake, since I’m never hungry in the morning. I don’t get spikes any other morning on the Glucerna, so I can only assume that it’s the physical work. Should I be concerned or is this expected with this kind of work?

Newly diagnosed, just started Mounjaro

I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and am also about 80 or 90 lbs overweight. The doctor prescribed some medications, including Mounjaro. I’ve never used an injectable medication before, so followed the instructions that came with it and hoping I did it right lol. It didn’t hurt, although I expected it to hurt since it’s an injection.

Over the years I have lost and regained lots of weight. Lately, I’ve found it very difficult to budge the pounds, and I’d gotten to my heaviest of 246 lbs at the time of the t2d diagnosis.

While waiting over the past few days to get the pre-auth and prescription filled, I’ve been looking through posts here. The success has given me a lot of hope that I may be finally able to shift weight and get my health in order. I have already lost ~13 lbs since my first doctor apt because Metformin reduced my appetite. But I was unable to tolerate the side effects after a few weeks, so he took me off that.

So far, side effects from the first Mounjaro injection (yesterday) haven‘t been too bad. I had a lot of energy suddenly last evening. But feel dead tired today. I imagine that will improve. The biggest thing is that it doesn’t take much to make me feel like I ate a huge meal. Learning to adjust portions I make to accommodate for that may take some time.
