Beyond the surface: Hope's red light therapy results

What happens to your skin after 8 weeks with the Series 2 Red Light Face Mask? We used a professional skin scanner to find out.

We followed Hope's 8-week journey with the Series 2 LED Light Therapy Face Mask, combining her own progress photos with in-clinic skin analysis using the OBSERV X to see what was changing beneath the surface.

  • On the surface: brighter, smoother, more even-looking skin.
  • Beneath the surface: softened smile lines, more even skin tone, reduced redness, and improved texture in areas that appeared irritated at week 1.

The mask combines 3 clinically proven wavelengths: red light (633nm), near-infrared (830nm) and deep near-infrared (1072nm), working at multiple depths simultaneously. Our independent testing showed a 30% reduction in wrinkles and a 57% improvement in skin plumpness after 8 weeks.

The visible results are just the start. The changes happening beneath the skin are what help support continued improvements over time.

How to tell if it’s hair growth or hair breakage?

If you're using red light therapy, minoxidil, or another hair loss treatment, you start to look for signs that it's working. You might find yourself checking your scalp every few days, wondering whether those short strands are new growth or just breakage.

When new hairs are in the early anagen phase, they're finer and softer than existing strands and so can be easy to miss. Some of the earliest signs of new hair growth include short, fine hairs standing upright from the scalp, baby hairs appearing along the hairline, and areas that once looked thinner gradually starting to fill in. Some people also notice a mild itch or tingling sensation as hair follicles become more active. The hairline and the top of the scalp are often the first areas where new growth becomes visible.

The quickest way to tell new growth from breakage is to pull one of the short strands and look at the tip. A tapered, soft end means new growth. A blunt or frayed end means breakage. New growth also comes upward from the scalp and gets longer over time where as broken hair stays the same length.

Most people using red light therapy start to notice changes at around 12–16 weeks of consistent use. Subtle changes to look out for are a slightly fuller parting, less shedding and fine new hairs at the hairline. In our independent testing, users who consistently used the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet experienced 123% more hair growth, as red light therapy helps encourage hair follicles out of their resting phase and back into active growth.

The easiest way to track your progress is with before-and-after photos. Hair growth happens gradually, so day-to-day changes are often too subtle to notice in the mirror. Alongside your treatment, a few simple habits can help support healthy hair growth: keep your scalp clean and free of product build-up, make sure you're getting enough iron, zinc, and vitamin D (as deficiencies can contribute to shedding), minimise heat styling and tight hairstyles and stay consistent with your routine. Hair follicles respond to regular, ongoing stimulation, so consistency is key.

The photos speak for themselves.

After just 8 weeks, skin looks visibly brighter, smoother and more even from a consistent 10 minute routine that fits into your day.

Does red light therapy work for hair loss?

Yes. And we have independent testing to back it up.

Red light therapy gets dismissed as a wellness trend. It isn't. It's an FDA-cleared treatment for androgenetic alopecia - a type of hair loss in both men and women and the results speak for themselves.

What red light therapy actually does

Red light wavelengths in the 620–660nm range are clinically proven to penetrate the scalp and energise hair follicles at a cellular level. They reactivate dormant follicles, extend the hair growth phase, and improve the scalp conditions that support healthy hair. No chemicals. No needles. No downtime.

What our independent study found

Our independent 84-day study used the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet on 31 subjects with mild to moderate hair loss. Every session: 10 minutes, once daily.

The results after 12 weeks:

  • +123% increase in hair growth rate
  • –72% reduction in hair loss
  • +26% improvement in hair density
  • –61% reduction in scalp oiliness
  • +15% improvement in scalp hydration

Measured. Statistically significant. Not self-reported.

The device

The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is FDA cleared (510(k) K230336) for effective home-use.

120 red light LEDs at 620nm-660nm deliver full-scalp coverage in every session. Built-in Bluetooth headphones. Pre-programmed 10 minute sessions. It fits around your life.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Robert Finney: "The two most important factors when looking at LED devices for hair loss are wavelength and energy. The CurrentBody Helmet nails both."

What to expect

Daily 10-minute sessions. Results typically visible from week 12. Full results at 16 weeks.

Consistency is what makes it work. Red light therapy isn't a quick fix, it's a clinically proven daily habit that delivers lasting results.

The bottom line

Red light therapy works for hair loss. The right wavelength, the right energy, the right consistency. The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet has all three.

Results proven in independent studies. CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet | FDA 510(k) clearance K230336.

What is red light therapy good for?

Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate your body's natural repair and renewal processes, and depending on the wavelength and where you apply it, it can target the face, the scalp, and the body. The mechanism is the same. The results look very different.

Below, we've broken down what red light therapy is clinically proven to help with, and which device is designed for each.

What red light therapy is good for: your face

The most well-studied use of red light therapy is on the face, specifically for fine lines, wrinkles, dullness and uneven tone

The CurrentBody Skin LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 uses 3 clinically recognised wavelengths, penetrating up to 10mm into the skin:

  • 633nm (red): stimulates collagen and reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • 830nm (near-infrared): energises cells to improve skin's firmness and brightness
  • 1072nm (deep near-infrared): targets the areas where signs of aging are more pronounced, boosting collagen deep under the skin

Proven via CurrentBody Veritace®-tested LED clinical studies:

  • 27% increase in brightness
  • 36% improvement in hydration
  • 30% reduction in wrinkles
  • 57% increase in skin plumpness

Visible results from around 8 weeks. LED sessions take 10 minutes, 3–5 times per week.

What red light therapy is good for: your hair

Red light therapy isn't just for skin. The same wavelengths that energise skin cells also energise hair follicle cells. Supporting thicker, fuller-looking hair and helping to slow the appearance of thinning.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Regrowth Device uses clinically proven red light, a spectrum of red light 620nm - 660nm to stimulate the scalp and encourage the hair growth cycle. It's clinically tested, FDA-cleared, and designed for both men and women experiencing early-stage thinning or hair loss.

What the clinical data shows:

  • Significantly increased hair density in as little as 16 weeks
  • Improved hair thickness and strength
  • Reduction in visible shedding

Sessions take 10 minutes, daily sessions. Used consistently, it works alongside the rest of your haircare routine, not in place of it.

What red light therapy is good for: your body

For the body, red light therapy moves beyond appearance to support wellness, recovery and firmer-looking skin across larger areas.  Red, near-infrared, and deep near-infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper into tissue, which is why they're the wavelength of choice for body treatments.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Full Body Panel combines red, near-infrared, and deep near-infrared light to support:

  • Improved skin firmness, tone, and elasticity
  • Faster muscle recovery after exercise
  • Overall wellness
  • Visible anti-ageing benefits across larger areas of the body

It's a flexible panel, use it flat, on its stand, or with the included straps to target specific areas like the chest, back, legs, or hands. Sessions take 10 minutes, 3–5 times per week.

How long until I see results?

Red light therapy is not a quick fix. It's a slow, steady, clinically backed compounding effect.

  • Face: visible results from around 8 weeks
  • Hair: noticeable improvements from around 12 weeks
  • Body: measurable changes with consistent use over a number of weeks

Consistency is the single biggest factor. The customers who see the biggest results are the ones who treat their device like a habit, not a treatment.

Is red light therapy safe?

Yes. Red light therapy is non-invasive, painless, and produces no UV. It's safe for all skin tones and types, suitable for daily use within recommended session lengths and gentle enough to use alongside most skincare and haircare routines.

If you have a specific medical condition, are pregnant, or are taking photosensitising medication, we always recommend checking with your doctor first.

The results, The testimonial

Here’s Catherine G’s feedback from using the Currentbody LED Light therapy panel 5x a week for 8 weeks:

“I’ve been struggling to find something that actually calms the irritation on my legs, but after using the LED Panel for 8 weeks, the redness has gone and my skin feels so much smoother now. It’s so easy to use and I could mould it to fit the specific area I was treating. Would definitely recommend!!”

What is red light therapy?

A non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate natural processes in your skin, primarily collagen production and cellular energy

It works by giving skin cells the energy they need to function like younger, healthier versions of themselves. The mechanism is well-studied. The results are clinically measurable.

The CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 uses 3 clinically recognised wavelengths, for anti-ageing, penetrating up to 10mm into the skin:

  • 633nm (red) - stimulates collagen and reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • 830nm (near-infrared) - energises cells to improve skin’s firmness and brightness
  • 1072nm (deep near-infrared) - targets the areas where signs of ageing are more pronounced, boosting collagen deep under the skin

Proven via CurrentBody Veritace®-tested LED clinical studies.

  • 27% increase in brightness
  • 36% improvement in hydration
  • 30% reduction in wrinkles
  • 57% increase in skin plumpness

Visible results from around 8 weeks. LED sessions take 10 minutes, 3–5 times per week.

How to choose the best LED Face Mask?

When it comes to LED light therapy, more power doesn't always mean better results. Effective treatment depends on a precise balance of:

  • Wavelength accuracy — Reaching the exact skin depth needed to achieve results.
  • Coverage consistency — Ensuring light reaches the full treatment area evenly.
  • Power — Balanced over time for effective treatments without irritating the skin.
  • LED quality — Emitting the correct wavelength at the same strength, every time.

At CurrentBody, our tech is designed with all of these factors in mind. We are the first brand to test every bulb in every device through Veritace®, guaranteeing that each device delivers the clinical-grade wavelengths proven to work.

Enhancing your LED results.

The CurrentBody Skin Green Tea Serum actively accelerates your LED results with its calming, anti-wrinkle formula. Clinically proven to deliver results up to 10x faster than LED alone.

Does red light therapy help wrinkles?

Research and controlled trials suggest that red light therapy can gradually improve the appearance of wrinkles. With consistent use, a visible reduction in wrinkle appearance and brighter, healthier-looking skin is noticeable. Rather than offering a quick fix, by encouraging the skin to renew and strengthen, red light therapy leads to natural-looking improvements that build over time.
