Moving to Berlin with husband and baby
Hi everyone,
My husband, our 2-year-old child, and I are considering moving to Berlin, and I would appreciate some advice from people who live there.
Our household income would initially be around €5,500 net per month from my husband's job. After a few months, our child would hopefully start attending a Kita, and I would begin looking for work myself.
My background is in BIM (Building Information Modeling), and I work as a BIM Manager / BIM Engineer. I would be interested to hear about the job market for BIM and construction-related digital engineering roles in Berlin. How difficult is it to find a job in this field, especially if my German is not yet fluent?
I also have a few questions:
- Is €5,500 net enough for a family of three to live comfortably in Berlin?
- How difficult is it currently to find a suitable apartment?
- How long does it usually take to get a Kita place for a 2-year-old?
- What monthly costs should we realistically expect (rent, utilities, health insurance, transportation, childcare, etc.)?
- Are there particular districts that are good for families with young children?
- Is there anything you wish you had known before moving to Berlin with a young family?
Thank you!
