Can we talk about the CR Awards voting system for a second?
The Crunchyroll Awards is definitely a popularity contest and that’s what I hate about it the most but I was always under the assumption that it was the fans I should’ve been directing my disappointment at but then I seen the rules for the first time and it turns out that my disappointment was directed at the wrong people this whole time.
Judges not only get to create weak ass nomination but they also get a whopping 70:30 split on votes for those nomination pretty much making the fan voting a glorified engagement machine where a vote is damn near useless.
All those times you sat there wondering how 86 didn’t win it that year, why Solo Leveling won AoTY over Frieren, or how a character with 2 lines in a season got nominated **AND** won Best English Voice Actor(shoutout to Abby Trott. she’s amazing and had multiple roles that year which would’ve made infinitely more sense to nominate over Nezuko…), it’s because the judges who clearly don’t watch anything outside of mainstream anime and **definitely** could not give a single f*ck about the English dub side of it get majority say over everything.
Maybe I’m alone when I say this but I think that 70:30 split being reversed and giving the fans who actually watch these shows majority say in voting would change a lot of these outcomes for the better especially in the more specific categories. It’s either that or you gotta finds judges with proven credentials(podcasters who actively discuss and/or review these shows).
Idk I could be a lil too emotional or maybe I don’t have all the facts. What do you guys think?
