Girl lives in an RV and does school by mail because of her father’s job; possibly saves a forest?

I’m trying to find book I vaguely remember reading around 3rd to 5th grade in the late 80s. It feels like something I might have gotten from a Scholastic book club flyer. It was in English and I’m sure the setting was American; possibly Florida but I’m not at all sure. The protagonist was a girl whose family lived in an RV and traveled around because her father took jobs in different places regularly. I think he did something like short term custodian or forestry jobs. The girl attended school by mail, which is the main reason the book stuck in my head this long—that sounded really fascinating to me as a kid. I remember her getting a packet in the mail with graded assignments back and the next set of lessons to do.

They‘re living at the father’s latest job where he’s taking care of a forest, or maybe a house near or in a forest. I think the girl winds up saving the forest from burning down, possibly from arson.

The cover may have had a lot of lush yellow and green with the girl sitting under a tree with a book or diary, but I’m not 100% positive that’s a memory of the same book.
