I need some insight from guys who live the life. I currently have an offer from CBP as an air interdiction agent, and I’ve got my battalion board this month for Army.

I come from law enforcment as a Sgt. in patrol and narcotic interdiction. I’m married and have 3 young children. I’m in my early 30s. I’m a 1000hr fixed wing CFII at the moment.

Background out of the way, I’m curious what you fellas think. I’ve heard of the current situation with Army Aviation, and I’m no stranger to doom and gloom talk. It definitely surrounds aviation in both military/ civilian pathways.

What are days like on deployment? What is a standard day like back home? Do most guys have talks of staying 20 or getting out asap?

CBP appears to be relatively close to what I used to do, and the pay is not bad at all. However, being a Texas native myself, some of the assignments down south aren’t locations you’d see on a postcard. However, I get stoked about looking for dope and people again. The unfortunate reality for CBP pilots under 100hrs of multi is you get put on a drone.

Does anyone know the status with the ANG in Texas currently? Over a year ago I went and spoke with a unit and started to get the ball rolling for the S2S when they had the whole party shut down due to the Reserves being absorbed by the ANG. I could not drop the idea, so I switched lanes and went to the AD and finally have the Batt board at the end of this month. However, I am a fixed wing CFII with close to 900 hours of tt, and I have continued reading a lot of "positive" talk about the status of the AD side of the house.

1. Any updates on Texas ANG S2S? 2. Status of Oklahoma S2S? 3. If possible, could all of my paperwork get transferred to the ANG with ease if I was able to get a spot at a Guard unit? Scored heavy on the fitness test, 71 on SIFT, and my whole packet is completed, or would I have to start from scratch on some of that?

I don't necessarily have years to hold off waiting for the ANG as I will be turning 31 at the end of 2026.
