Diagnosed as "Diverticulitis?"

First off all let me start by saying I'm not from the US, so our healthcare works a bit differently.

My symptoms started on Tuesday evening, after a normal meal, I felt like someone shoved a knife in the middle of my belly. I also suffer from GERD and possibly IBS so I was used to random pains in my stomach, but not this bad. I had a bowel movement and the pain subsided a bit and went to sleep. Tomorrow (Wednesday) near the end of my shift I started getting a fever, and when I went home it jumped to 101. I did a CBC and CRP in a private lab and my leukocytes were elevated, my CRP being 50.

I went to our local hospital to see the on call surgeon, where they did repeat labs (showing CRP rising to 70) and an ultrasound (which was relatively normal other than slight sigmoid colon wall inflammation). Based on all that, I was sent home with Flagyl and Levofloxacine and got a referral for a gastroenterologist the next day.

Yesterday, the gastroenterologist saw me, noticed the CRP had risen to 90, but since I was actually feeling much better and my body temp had gone back to normal, he told me to just stay on the antibiotics cocktail and come back the next day for repeat labs - noting that if the labs kept getting worse or the fever returned, I would be sent to do a CT.

Fast forward today, I spent a couple of hours in the ER doing repeat labs, which showed my CBC back to normal, and CRP down to 50 again. The on call surgeon said there is no need to do a CT and to come back next week for a final check up. My discharge paper says "Diagnosis: Diverticulitis?"

I have an EGDS scheduled soon at the same hospital, and when I asked them if I can even do it while still recovering from this mysterious infection, they just said if I felt fine I could do it. I'm a bit confused by everything that happened. Of course I'm happy I'm feeling better, but it's so frustrating to be sent home with a bunch of meds for a condition that wasn't even confirmed. Has anyone had similar experiences?
