Trying to figure out what to do with my Panasonic 4K HC-VX981

TDLR is this fixable/a known issue, and is it worth repairing (I do like the camcorder fwiw, torn about buying a new one, or some other used thing...)? I took it to a guy and he quoted $300—he looked for a minute in another room, thinks I need the lens replaced. Exploring my options, still considering fixing it.

I bought this camcorder in 2018. Worked fine for years. There were times I took it on trips and used it for long periods out in the beating heat, times when I would carry it around in my bag (sometimes loose in a tote) and just pull it out every now and then to shoot something for a minute—with months or sometimes years in between those uses. But the camcorder wasn't heavily used or abused. No scuffs, never dropped it, never got it wet, the lens (externally) doesn't have damage or scratches. But I DID occasionally use bootleg spare batteries.
Last year I was getting ready for a trip and wanted to bring it, and I wanted to charge it. I only ever used its official power adapter. There's a possibility that I had the cable plugged into the camcorder, then into the outlet, if that order really matters. I just remember turning the camcorder on, and then seeing all these pink stripes. The stripes are mostly static, they only sort of move slightly if you zoom or tilt the camera. The UI, date stamp, etc. all show, the menus work, and viewing old footage is fine. If I took a photo or footage while the screen was stripey, then the footage would just be the stripey image.
Couldn't figure out what it was, but after the camcorder was sitting on standby for like 10minutes, or sometimes if I viewed some footage in my gallery and went back to standby mode, the camera would be normal again and I could see and shoot footage. But then other times, instead of the stripes, everything on camera would show green.
Because I couldn't find anything online about it, and because it would go back to "normal" after a bit, I ignored it for a while. But a couple months later it stopped going back to normal, and now I'm just stuck in the stripey screen.
Does anyone have a guess about this?
