If my personality was shaped by things I didn’t choose, what part of me is actually “me”?

Serious psychology/philosophy question.

A person’s personality is shaped by genetics, childhood, parenting, trauma, culture, education, brain chemistry, and random life experiences.

But none of us chose those starting conditions.

So when we say “this is who I am,” what exactly are we talking about?

Am I truly choosing my personality, or am I just the result of everything that happened to me before I was old enough to understand it?

And if that’s true, where does personal responsibility actually begin?

If Hitler had been a woman, would Russia still be unable to give “her” a life sentence?

As I understand it, Russia generally does not impose life imprisonment on women.

So here’s a legal hypothetical:

If Hitler had committed the exact same crimes and caused the exact same number of deaths, but had been a woman instead, would Russian law still prevent a life sentence?

If so, does that mean the exemption applies regardless of the scale of the crime, even in the most extreme case imaginable?

I’m asking about how the law works, not whether the punishment would be deserved.
