SIMGOT EW300 DSP sounds worse than my KZ Castor Pro. Possible defect? or Just Not For Me? Also Open To Suggestions Under ₹10k

Hey everyone,
I recently bought the Simgot EW300 DSP ( From Headphone Zone) after a lot of research and was really excited for it, but my experience has been quite different from what I expected.
A few things I've noticed:
- Volume is surprisingly low.
- Tested on 3-4 devices (phones/tablet) and a PC.
- I need around 85-90% volume for comfortable listening.
- For comparison, my KZ Castor Pro (Bass improved) reaches similar loudness at around 45-50% volume on the same devices.
- On bass-heavy tracks, I occasionally hear a subtle distortion/crackling/"BRRRT" effect instead of a clean bass hit.
- Occasionally I hear a faint hiss/noise.
- Bass feels much weaker than expected.
- Instrumentals and overall presentation feel flatter/lifeless compared to what I was expecting from the EW300.
Felt like some 800-900rs earphones( boat ones)
What surprised me most is that when I compared it directly with my KZ Castor Pro, both I and multiple other listeners consistently preferred the Castor Pro. The Castor sounded more impactful, more engaging, and instrumentals felt more alive, while the EW300 DSP sounded underwhelming in comparison.
Multiple friends listened to both and independently felt that something seemed off with the EW300's volume and overall presentation.
At first I thought maybe I simply didn't like the tuning, but the low volume, occasional distortion, and overall experience are making me wonder whether I may have received a defective unit.
My listening habits are roughly:
- 40-50% Hip-Hop (Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, J. Cole, etc.)
- 20-25% Ambient / Atmospheric music
- 20-25% Pop / R&B (Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, SZA, etc.)
So I generally prefer a fun and engaging sound with good bass presence, but not overwhelmingly bass-heavy.
Questions:
Does this sound like a defective EW300 DSP unit?
Has anyone experienced similar low volume or distortion issues with the EW300 DSP?
If I end up returning it, should I give the EW300/HBB version another shot, or look at something else entirely?
Based on my music preferences, what would you recommend under ₹10k?
