Hey hunters, I’d like some advice from people with more MHFU experience.

I’m currently around early Nekoht quests. I’ve been using Long Sword (Devil Slicer) and a fully upgraded Kirin set for a while, and it carried me really hard through low rank. I was clearing things like Raths and Ceanataur pretty fast and generally felt like I controlled the pace of hunts.

Recently though, things started changing. Khezu suddenly hits much harder, Yian Garuga became the first monster to triple cart me, and a double Monoblos quest nearly destroyed me. I completed it, but it felt like monsters started chaining attacks and putting pressure on me instead of the other way around.

I’m not stuck, but I’m starting to feel that Kirin may be falling off defensively. I was considering Shogun Ceanataur armor because of the sharpening/sharpness-related skills for Long Sword, but I’m unsure if changing sets now is actually worth it.

Also, I’m only really comfortable with Long Sword and Great Sword. Those are the two weapon types I’ve used the most, so I’d rather avoid suggestions that depend on switching to weapons I have no experience with.

At this point in progression, what armor path would you recommend? Should I continue investing in Kirin, switch to something else, or start building toward another set entirely?

I’m mainly trying to improve the flow of hunts and avoid spending half the quest running around healing and burning through Mega Potions 😄

Just beat Yian Kut-Ku in ~3:54 on Elder ★3 (MHFU, early game gear – Iron Katana “Grace”).

Not trying to flex or anything, I’m just curious how this compares since I came back to the game after years. It felt fast, but maybe that’s just experience kicking in.

For those who’ve replayed Freedom Unite recently (or remember their runs):
How long did it take you to bring down Kut-Ku around this point in the game?

Also curious if you noticed hunts feeling faster overall when coming back after a long break.
