For those looking for “forest branches” look.

I looked around but none of the wood at my LFS’s looked like tree logs. Then browsing the small animal section I came across the Living World Treehouse and the Large size should be perfect for most people in a small/medium setup! The large has different thicknesses of logs as I find the medium and small are much too small.

I’m not sure on the wood but because it has to be safe to chew on, it’s either willow, apple wood, aspen or birch (likely) so no worries about sap and it’s all dried out and dead. The bark will be removed.

Edit:
Just an update here - A note on the wood, turns out it listed pine online so I will be returning them. The wood type was moreso what wouldn't rot in the aquarium as fast. HOWEVER, this product does exist from other companies in at least willow wood from my quick search, so this concept in general does work if you don't readily have access to a place to pick out branches, cut them, make sure they're good to go in general.

There is also the price of convenience for those hung up on $24 (which is still cheap might I add).

General cannister/lily pipe setup + questions

Hey there!

First time setting up a tank with a cannister/lily pipe combo and looking to make sure I have everything right. I've listed everything I have so far.

  • Setup: Lifegard 30 x 6 x 8, 6 gallon long aquarium Low iron.
  • Jardli Mini Lily Pipe Set Spin Outflow w/ Surface skimmer (13 mm for 1/2 ID)
  • Fluval 107 cannister filter
  • 5/8 ID 7/8 OD vinyl tubing
  • 1/2" ID 5/8" OD vinyl tubing
  • Hose Barb Reducers - 5/8" to 1/2" (Fluval > 5/8" tubing > Reducer > 1/2 tubing)
  • 4 hose clamps (extra security from tube reducers)

Questions:

1) I'd like to know what I can use to angle the tubing to under my desk like the photo. However, the red line is where the end of my desk is vs the edge of the tank in my personal setup.

I'm not sure what the grey tubes are used for this purpose? I'm thinking I'd need a 90 degree elbow joints - one from where the pipe hits the desk, and another for over the desk? I thought I could have flexible tubes like in this screenshot but when I tried with my vinyl tubing it just bent/pinched instead of staying ridged.

  1. I also picked up a polycarbonate sheet as a lid - any advise on clips?

  2. I've never used C02 but would like to for this. I looked at ADA and UNS options for being compact but JFC that pricing. I also saw a DIY but it seems it's constantly on, even when lights are on so there's no regulator. I think I have an unused C02 Art regulator from at least 5 years ago in storage I'll dig for but that works only for a large c02 cannister? I would like to keep it petite.

Bonus photos of current 11.4 gal hydra and my previous Mr.Aqua 12 gal.
Yes, I fcking love Hydrocotyle Tripartita. It's cute as heck.

Stock: Blue jelly neocaridina, celestial pearl danios, an ungodly amount of red ramshorn (halp, I swear food is regulated).

A curious mention of aliens causing genetic mutations in this ball python documentary

Mention starts at 1:06:50

"There have been more genetic mutations that have been found in this little area than any other place in Africa. And strangely enough, the genetic mutations in this area aren't limited to just ball pythons. There are more genetic variants and gentic mutations of other animals, including human beings.

There are more albino human beings in this area than any other place in Africa. So, what causes all these genetic mutations to occur in this one spot in Africa? Well, if you ask the people around here... they will flat out tell you in all seriousness that it was caused by alien visitation.

The people here truly believe that about 10,000 years ago, aliens came down and visited this area of Africa and not only gave them the voodoo religion but caused all of these genetic mutations in animals and people."
