A7C II vs A7 IV : can't decide which to buy first
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for advice on choosing between the Sony A7C II and A7 IV as my first serious upgrade. Here's my situation:
Current gear
- Sony A7 II
- All Canon Mount lenses with adapter : 50mm f/1.8 + 24-105mm f/4 + 70-200mm f/2.8
Planned native E-mount lenses
- Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 as my main lens
- Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN for wide angle
My use cases
- Travel & tourism photography
- Video essays for my Youtube channel
- Events & family photography
- Occasional conferences (2-3h recordings in 4K)
- Occasional concerts (low light)
Why I want to upgrade
- 4K video capability
- Silent shutter
- USB-C port
- Touchscreen
- Battery life
My dilemma
Both are around the same price used (~1,500€). Here's how I see it:
A7C II advantages
- Slightly more compact and lighter, but does it really make a difference with a bulky lens ?
- Available in silver (And I love the looks)
A7 IV advantages
- Dual card slots (peace of mind)
- Joystick for AF point
- Better and more confortable EVF
- Deeper grip (especially with heavy lenses like the 35-150)
- True mechanical shutter
I'll eventually own both, but need to decide which to buy first.
Main question: given that I'll primarily use this with the Tamron 35-150mm (1kg lens), does the compactness of the A7C II still make sense? Or should I go straight for the A7 IV's ergonomics and dual slots?
Thanks in advance!
