The LHC has finished proton-proton physics, now starting the last 3 weeks of physics with lead-lead collisions!

Actually the third attempt today, but the first succesful one, previous two the beams were dumped very early.

Final van der Meer scan with protons at the LHC, where we sweep the beams across each other to calibrate luminosity measurements.

Near the end of the LHC now, just over a month to go until the LHC is shutdown to start work on upgrading to the HL-LHC! Back to nominal proton-proton physics for the next few weeks for the last time, after a few days of special low energy runs.
