A while ago I posted a question about the recent ish
Popularity surge of the Dogman on r/cryptozoology.

I wanted to understand why the Dogman in particular had developed such a huge following comparable to Bigfoot in such a comparatively short time span.

The thread quickly descended into boomer type nonsense about the Gen Z being stupid.

I’m NOT asking why people believe weird stuff.

I’m NOT asking why people think Werewolves are cool.

I’m asking how we got here from the Steve Cook song. How did it get as big as Bigfoot? Was it just the influence of Linda Godfrey? Why did it happen to the Dogman in particular rather than say idk the Goatman or some other Cryptid adjacent urban legend?

If I see one more post on r/cryptozoology about Champ being a ‘plesioturtle’ I’m going to explode.

Is this a low effort post on an academic subreddit?

Sure, but I need a void to scream into.
