Burnt by dentist during treatment (Scotland)

Burnt by dentist during treatment (Scotland)

Hi all

I saw a similar post that was 2yrs old, but not in Scotland so I thought I’d start a fresh one.

My dentist accidentally burnt my lip during root canal treatment over a week ago and it looks as if the pigment has been damaged.

She apologised at the time and it didn’t look too bad at the time, plus my face was numb - so I said it was fine.

I visited the pharmacy the next day as it was seeping and quite nippy. Their advice was to keep it as dry as possible and that I’d want it to crust over.

Currently half of it is crusting over to some degree, but it’s getting irritated by constant movement (I need to shut up 😆) and eating/drinking. It is very sensitive and stingy.

I’ve asked for this to be noted on my records in case it scars me, but I’ve been so self conscious about it and avoiding any social interaction because it is noticeable.

Long term, I’m worried because I work with disabled people and a portion of them lip read - so if it does scar, I’m going to be so paranoid.

I haven’t sought medical advice yet and wondered if that should be my next move in worst case scenario that I’m permanently scarred. And, the main point of my post is to get a feel for if this is something that I should pursue? I feel bad for the dental surgery, but I also rather liked my lips looking normal!
