Best and Worst Episodes of the 2014 Show
Granted, The Tom and Jerry Show is not the franchise’s magnum opus, but it contributed so many new stories, hundreds, in fact. I’d like to talk with some fellow fans familiar with the show about the best and worst episodes, as well as the tropes and details within them.
My favorite episode is probably “Toodle Boom,” a suburban house episode from season two. While I don’t always take his side, I’m generally sympathetic for Tom, especially in this show because his friends and owners borderline abuse him. I love any episode ending with Tom rightfully emerging victorious, but in “Toodle Boom,” I like that his victory isn’t in impressing his bougie girlfriend, rather getting the mice out of the house and sending a crazy Toodles after them. There’s something so satisfying about watching Tom walk away from it all so confidently.
There are a lot of Tom torture episodes I dislike, but until I think of one that’s potentially worse, I select “Reward If Lost,” another suburban house episode from season two, as the show’s worst episode. It’s so disheartening watching Jerry constantly get Tom sent away from home and into the yard of a hostile dog. In fact, it hits a nerve within me because I’ve been attacked by a dog and know how severe and traumatizing it can be. Granted, I’m also not a cartoon character lol, but I digress.
The worst part of “Reward If Lost” is the ending. Tom finally gets home and kicks out Jerry. Instead of being humiliated like he deserved, the mouse gets angry, does his angry toddler march for the 50th time that season, and manages to let the dog onto Rick and Ginger’s property, where it continues to harass and assault Tom. It’s such a mean-spirited episode. Tom is not a perfect angel, but he deserves so much better.
What do you all think? I’d love to know your favorite and least favorite episodes.
