Back to Dota after 4 years

Hello, I recently woke up from a coma and came back to Dota after around 4 years away. I’ve been playing again for about a month now and these are some things I’ve noticed:

I expected there to be way more arcanas and skins by now, but apparently there’s no Battle Pass anymore. Honestly that feels a bit sad, but I understand the game is slowly declining over time.

I actually like the new map. There’s a lot more jungle to farm and it allows for more ganks and movement around the map, although I’m not a huge fan of some of the new neutral items.

The new heroes feel a bit soulless compared to the older ones, but I still appreciate the effort from Valve.

The lack of new players is very noticeable. I used to be Crusader V / Archon I on my main account years ago, and now I’m Herald/Guardian. It’s honestly fascinating you see people with thousands of hours still stuck in Herald and Guardian. I guess it’s because the overall playerbase is much better now, and most “new players” you see are just smurfs.

On my secondary account I used to be Ancient III, and now I calibrated at Legend IV. The amount of bought accounts is insane. While low ranks are full of smurfs, higher ranks feel full of account buyers. Still, games are easier to carry there because people don’t give up as quickly. I’m already getting close to Ancient again.

In Europe barely anyone speaks English anymore. Every match is just Russians everywhere.

I’m also surprised by the amount of meme builds and completely stupid drafts people go for nowadays. Sometimes you already know the game is lost during the draft phase. On my main account matches feel like flipping a coin, there’s barely any excitement left.

No matter how much time passes, Dota is still Dota.
