Where are the devs on this project?

Anyone have clues as to whether this thing is still ongoing? I'm really having a great time with the NomadBSD build on 15.1. I haven't heard back from the developers, and I can't reopen my account in the NomadBSD forums due to lack of security certification.

Bueller? Stimpy?

Doesn't seem too difficult to rebuild for yourself, if you have the time, working VM or FreeBSD install and a capable PC. I might try that soon.

Additional drivers

I just came back to regular, Gnome powered Ubuntu the other day. I'm just wondering where the Additional Drivers dialog is located. I might need to adjust it later to get rid of, or replace certain drivers or repositories at times.

I know the manual method for controlling repos via terminal, but I'm more comfortable using the Additional Drivers dialog, something I've used with other Ubuntu flavors in the past.

size issues...

OK... so I managed to install a racing game, torcs, and the Nvidia 580 drivers. Both things work. That's great news! But... I'm curious... On the left, I circled the amount of space left in the smaller / partition. It's got a negative number on it! On the right where I placed the ? mark, the size of the larger partition did shrink after installing the game and Nvidia drivers.

So... anyone got a clue as to where torcs and the Nvidia drivers are actually installed? How does this all work in NomadBSD? Some sort of virtual container, maybe, that's uncompressed while booting? I used a Linux distro like that decades ago, worked really well and booted surprisingly fast in the mechanical HD era. Something called Peanut Linux, it was based on Slackware IIRC, anyway...

I'm not really complaining here, just trying to figure this detail out. I'm just happy this is working out as I'd like to for now! I could literally use NomadBSD as a daily driver or alternate desktop when my Windows and Linux installs have bad days or whatever... =)

Not much else to do this Friday evening, so I shall try installing pure FreeBSD! It'll occupy a 410 GB for / + 39 GB swap on my main PC that also runs Lubuntu and Win11.

Read a metric ton of docs and pored through a few forums, including the official FreeBSD forum. I think the desktop-installer option on 15.0 Release is a great idea, very attractive to me. I plan on installing X11, XFCE, i915 and the Nvidia drivers.

If this works out, I may end up replacing GhostBSD on an older PC with the pure stuff. :)

Wish me luck lol...

...but not new to Debian or Linux. :)

Settled on this distro, after looking for something to fill the third system partition on my main PC. This PC also runs Lubuntu, fydeOS* and Windows 11. Yup, you read that correctly, don't adjust your monitors! =D The third partition on this PC was previously occupied by GhostBSD*. I didn't want to lose it, but upgrading/reinstalling Ghost didn't work for me, so I needed something else to occupy it.

Anyway, I've got MX set up as I want so far. This run is a lighter Linux for me. My Lubuntu Install is on 26.04 LTS, and has the entire Ubuntu Studio repo installed on it. I wanted the DE to be lighter, and I still need X11 for many programs. So... that Ubuntu flavor for me ended up being a bit heavier (though not as heavy as Kubuntu or standard Ubuntu... Sorry, Gnome users!)

I was looking to install pure Debian, but setting that up was too rough and time consuming for me. I looked at a few other distros that feel and run like pure Debian IMO but are easier to maintain... tried q4os, Linux Mint Debian and even antiX. Q4os was too buggy, Linux Mint DE still felt too much like its Ubuntu derived version, and antiX was fun in its peak minimalism, but I wanted Secure Boot support*.

  1. Most of the media keys on my laptop work, but I can't use the brightness buttons. How do I fix this?

  2. Is it possible to run only one GPU at a time? I have the 550 drivers installed, and basically MX runs for me in hybrid mode. That's nice, but there are times when I want only the Intel iGPU on the i7-8750H to be running, or maybe the 1050 GPU by itself in Performance mode.

*P.S., fydeOS runs on a rescued 512 GB SATA drive, connected to a USB 3 cable. I have GhostBSD running well on another PC, so not a huge deal to lose it on my main PC.

(crossposted from the q4os forum, slightly edited)

I have version 8.2.0 installed from flatpak. It's a mess. When I turn it on, and use just the equalizer, I hear the infamous bleep tone going on nonstop right along with what I want to hear. When I turn on more than one effect, the sound almost disappears and sounds muffled.

Should I uninstall 8.2.0 and use the q4os version instead?
