Useful blog post about the hit games of 2026
I Found a really useful blog post that analyzing Steam’s 2026 Q1 trends.
Particularly impressive was that the number of games released on Steam in 2026 Q1 was higher than the any previous year's Q1.
It also says that Steam's algorithm is designed to naturally bury games that have no marketing or user traction. This is what prevents the Steam Store from being completely flooded with AI-slop game, and It means you 'should' market your game, or your game could be buried like many other AI-slop games.
It was also interesting to see the analysis about genre trends, 2D platformer games are not performing very well, the Vampire Survivors-style genre is still popular, and how Steam’s popular genre structure has remained surprisingly stable over time.
If you're an indie developer or are interested in the current Steam market, I think you should read it.
