Chinense × Baccatum seeds finally harvested!

Finally harvested the seeds from my habanero pollinated with baccatum pollen! The seeds are all pale and healthy looking, and nicely plump but they're so much more wavy than I expected and the size variation surprised me. Some are so small and some are actually quite large, and they're so twisted on themselves in real life. I included a picture at the end of the uncrossed habanero seeds I harvested a few weeks ago for comparison. The weird thing though is that there's so many of them! Over 20 from my crossed pod when my uncrossed pods have under 15 each, I absolutely didn't expect that

Ripe habanero! She holds the seeds of a very special project ft. her sister flowers

I've posted about this before but my habanero is finally ripe! I'm gonna leave it for another week to let the Baccatum mixed seeds fully mature, and hopefully give me 1 or 2 viable f1 babies for next spring. I also made 3 more crosses with the same genes, and plan to do a few more as more flowers come up so these plants will likely come inside this winter if any of them take, wish me luck! I'll update when I harvest the seeds with my results

Sole successful C. Chinense × C. Baccatum pod almost fully ripe

Pictures from the past few days, Baccatum parent plant included (only three fruits on the first one because the other flowers were used for breeding) These plants just put out a wave of new flowers, so I made 4 new crosses with the habanero flowers that were ready, and will do them the other way once more baccatum flowers mature

Seen a lot of pepper mislabels - ghosts?

I've seen a lot of people posting pictures of what they think they're growing, and I just wanted to make sure I am actually growing ghost peppers?

Cross breeding C. Chinense with C. Baccatum as a first year gardener

Hi everyone! I've always grown up fascinated with genetics and have always hoped that I can do something involving genetics when I grew up, but never really found a niche I was interested in until this last year. I discovered pepper breeding and interspecies pepper breeding. Now I've never even grown a pepper before let alone bred any, and when I had tried keeping plants alive before, they always died, though admittedly I never did enough research. This time I dived deep into researching pepper care, pepper flower anatomy, pepper pod anatomy, the genetics side of things, how some crosses work better one way rather than the other, etc. And then I decided to dip my toes in myself by starting a highly ambitious project that even seasoned gardeners could consider difficult. I've decided to attempt to breed and stabilize a 3 species, 4 variety hybrid of red habanero (pictured) mad hatter, red ghost, and a spicier jalapeno variety. The habaneros I planted from seed never germinated so I had to buy starters from a nursery, and the only habaneros I found were on discount with extremely yellow sad looking leaves. I let them keep what flowers they had, and even crossed one. I emasculated a couple, and pollinated with mad hatter pollen knowing the chances of success were low, but the mad hatter was on its last push of flowers and pollen, and the habaneros flowers wouldn't open until after all the mad hatter flowers were other self pollinated or fallen off, so I took a chance. And it worked! One of the flowers actually took and started to swell and it's even beginning to ripen! The ghost jalapeno cross is also growing, however I forgot to tag it so I don't remember which is which, but if people want me to I can post pictures of some of the ghost pods I have growing too :) hopefully I get a few viable hybrid seedlings this January. I'm going to grow them inside under a grow light early to give them the longest fruiting window I can in full summer sun, wish me luck! I'll continue to post as my project evolves

Successful swelling cross between C. Chinense and C. Baccatum now ripening!

I posted about this cross when it first started swelling a little while ago, now it's starting to ripen! Red habanero mother, and a mad hatter father. Fingers crossed I get a viable seed or two!

Lack of plant lineage trackers? I'll make my own.

Hey everyone, I've noticed a severe lack of apps designed to help track lineage with plants. There are plenty for animals, and plenty of plant health trackers, but nothing out there can help track multiple complex generations of plants, so I've decided I'll build one myself. I'm still in the very beginning planning stages, and was curious if anyone had any feedback that may help make the app more useful for the community? For example, what are you currently using to track your projects, and what frustrates you the most about your current set up? What could an app have that would make you consider switching to said app for your project tracking? And finally what would be an absolutely necessary feature in your eyes? I'm planning on doing the initial app in Android and then adding in ios and PC compatibility for seamless data tracking

Thank you in advance for any input!

Bedrock console players?

Hi everyone! I'm a bedrock player on PlayStation, 27F, and I play with add-ons fairly often. I have the marketplace pass so I have access to quite a few add-ons. I was planning on creating a homestead hardcore world to play on. The only problem is id like to play with people but alas I have few friends. My question is whether anyone would be willing to play a world together to get to know each other and become buddies?

(Friendship only, I'm not single)

Bedrock console players?

I'm a bedrock console player, I have the marketplace pass and use add-ons fairly often. I'm making a homestead type world and was going to record gameplay and post to YouTube. This isn't my only YouTube project in mind. My only issue is that I'm typically a solo player, and was wanting to play with another person, but alas, I don't have many friends. (Go figure) My question here is whether anyone would be willing to play a world together and get to know each other before becoming a YouTube companion?

(I'm not single, this is friendship seeking only)

First swelling cross between C. Chinense (habanero) x C. Baccatum (mad hatter)

Clipped the anthers and petals a day before the mad hatter had any pollen ready, so I was definitely taking a chance with this one, but the pepper is definitely starting to swell at this point. If it fully takes, and ripens with viable seeds and pollen, it will be the start of a years long journey crossing and stabilizing a hybrid between chinense, baccatum, and annum. Wish me luck!

First tomatos from seed!

These are my first tomatoes I've grown from seed, my first year growing any kind of plant, and I'm honestly really proud of myself. I'm in zone 6b. They're purple Cherokee and big rainbow tomatoes :) The significantly smaller one in the first picture was a tiny seedling I transplanted because it popped up a couple weeks after the first two, and I decided to give it a chance and see what happens. It didn't even have true leaves when I transferred it at first, or any root offshoots, but I wasn't going to be upset if it didn't live, but it's doing amazing!

I'm gonna put them in the ground soon, but for now they seem happy in these peat pots. I water them any time the pot looks dry to avoid them drying out, and will end up tearing the peat pot off when I plant them as I've heard they don't break down, and suck water from the soil, but I haven't noticed too many issues with how they're growing so far besides a small amount of sunburn when I transferred them permanently outside after I guess not hardening well enough

▲ 1 r/garden

Hi all! For context, I'm starting a garden from scratch in zone 6b. This is year one and I'm trying to stick to more exotic plants or less grown plants. My brand is called Down the Hole Exotics, so wonderland themed fruits, veggies, and herbs are exceptionally sought after. So far I've found or heard of mad hatter peppers, queen of hearts lettuce, and Alice's dream tomatoes. Are there any other wonderland themed plants that I'm unaware of? I also have purple basil, and I'm not sure how uncommon these are, but yellow pear tomatoes. Thanks in advance for any help given! :)
