Hibiscus soil change?

I live in a cool climate, and keep my plants in pots so I can bring them in in the winter. I'm curious as to if anyone replaces the soil every so often, or just keeps adding fertilizer? Most of mine tend to slow by the third year, regardless of changes to watering, pruning, fertilizing, etc. Thanks!

Finally warm enough!

Last rounds of frost kept coming in northern IL. Finally going to be warm enough to transfer these pretties to a permanent spot!
