In what appears to be a separate incident to the Deputy Police Commander assassination, a roadside bomb wounded multiple police officers during their patrol in the Sistan-Baluchestan region today. Due to this information being confirmed by Iranian state media, it is possible there were deaths rather than injuries.
In the latest in a series of escalating attacks within the Sistan-Baluchestan province, Deputy Police Commander Nosrat Eftekhari was assassinated by a roadside bomb. This implies insurgents in the area are both supplied enough to have consistent access to working explosives (roadsides mines and RPGs as previously reported), have a functioning intelligence network capable of tracking high ranking personnel, and forces capable of putting that information to good use to pull something like this off. This is following the assassination of a Police Major in the neighboring region of Kerman just yesterday.
