Am from El Paso and about to transfer to UTEP as a Junior from DACC. I used to go to UTEP all the time for different kinds of events so I know UTEP pretty well when it comes to where everything is at. I registered for engineering courses and already met my advisors and my financial aid is all set. The problem: UTEP is making me do a 2 day orientation but I work full time at an engineering company. I told them that I can’t do the orientation but they said I had to. My job has a huge project and they need everyone present. Has anyone bypassed this orientation before? Or any suggestions would be appreciated it.

After leaving the military I moved back to Texas, my ultimate goal was to become a secondary History teacher. That goal came crashing down after I completed my observation hours this past year. I witnessed so much disrespect not only from students but from administrators. Some students were not listening and were laughing at the teacher when she told them to settle down. She sends them to the admin office and literally 5 mins later, they were escorted back by a admin staff and then ask the teacher to come out to the hall way. After the class, I ask the teacher what happened and she said that admin told her “work on her classroom management “. She looked defeated and sad. She was perfect in everything she was doing. I couldn’t believe it and it’s been on my mind since. I am a very out spoken person and I think I would have flipped on my administration. It’s like teachers can’t speak their mind because of “job security” which gives me a sense of being hold “prisoner” by administrators. So with that said, I decided to become a professor because I am not confident I will not lash out on admin. Teachers, you’re the strongest people alive and sorry if you ever been disrespected by administrators. They forget they were once teachers themselves. Sorry had to vent because a month later, am still shocked. Today, I officially dropped out of the teaching program and pretty much sad about it but after self assessment, am not made for secondary education.
