Getting a car. What's up with this "w/gap"
Offered a 5.10% from credit union. I'm fine with that versus used car lot financing which is usually high af. My question is when I plot my details out on a loan calculator, my payment comes out to $348 for 48 months. The credit union wants $395(w/gap). I'm paying $6000 down, well above the minimum 20% to avoid the need for gap. That's $40+ a month in gap coverage over the life of the car.
What are these folks, whom have a stellar reputation, doing?
