Started Ginsen Onsen

And I’ve broken so many of the little pieces at the beginning. It’s actually worrying me a lot. It seems so far that there are lots of extras but wow. This is my 11th build, so I don’t think this is a me-problem because it’s the first time I’ve broken this many. I’ve probably broken more already than I have across all of the other builds 😭

For the folks that have already built it: does it get better? Pieces 18 and 53 in particular have been awful.

Boards warping noooooo

I am so upset. I laid the boards for Ginzen Onsen out in my basement with some vinegar in bowls for a couple of days to air them out and some of them have warped, probably because of my dehumidifier. Is there anything I can do beyond putting something heavier on them to weigh them down to hopefully straighten them out or am I out of luck? This did not happen with my Hoi An kit and they were down there much longer. I wasn't even thinking something like this might happen.

Hoi An Old Town

Finished Hoi An Old Town for my mom. She told me that her trip to Vietnam with her partner was the favourite for both of them, and she particularly loved Hoi An so this was inevitable.

It looks nice but I did not enjoy this build, honestly. The wood is very thin, a lot of pieces broke. I did modify it so it could be a plug in, but then I had to glue the bottom on because of the connectors. For the folks that like the wood smell, this one might be good for you. This is how I learned that I do not like it hahaha. The switches are going to be a potential issue because of how they’re seated.

Many of the details are very nice and I do love the beads. Honestly, it wasn’t all frustrating, but out of the 10 that I’ve made… it’s my least favourite.

Alice Tea Store

The result is so cute but I’m really confused by some of it. There are two plants that are hidden because of their placement so I might move them.

Here’s my finished Whispering Hollow. I absolutely credit u/MouseDance with the idea and information to modify the tree.

I was really surprised at some of the pieces that needed to be glued and some of the areas that felt a little flimsy given the cost of this kit. The music box sound is only ok, not super great. And I actually prefer it with the lights off. They’re too bright and i can see the glow coming out from gaps on the base at points.

That being said, I am so pleased and don’t regret my purchase at all. It’s whimsical and cozy, which is what I love.

For those creative folks that typically mod their kits, do you have some go-to items that you typically reach for over and over to mod with? I’m thinking about doing that and I’m curious to know what the most beneficial items are to keep on hand.
