Hey everyone! Part time lurker here :) I’ve been following this subreddit for a while now and have been learning a lot just from reading posts.
My dad was really into vintage toys and dolls back in the early 2000s and over time built up a pretty big collection, and a lot of it ended up sitting in storage for YEARS. I’ve recently started going through everything and trying to figure out what might still be of interest to collectors.
This past week, while cleaning out the garage some more, I came across a Bratz Genie Magic Bedroom (Toys “R” Us exclusive), and I’ve been having a hard time figuring out out how something like this is viewed by collectors today.
From what I’ve seen online, there’s a big range depending on condition but mine is in very rough shape:
- Heavy box damage
-Parts exposed to air (possibly water at some point)
-Visible rodent bite marks on parts of the packaging and some areas of the set
So I’m trying to be realistic about it.
I’m mainly curious:
-In this kind of condition, is this something collectors would still be interested in at all?
-Would it be considered more of a parts/restoration piece?
-Do Bratz collectors typically look for only clean/display-ready items, or is there still a niche for damaged sets like this?
-Would it make more sense to keep it together, or do people usually part things like this out?
I’ve definitely got a lot more items from his collection to go through, so I’m just trying to get a better sense of how condition affects interest
Appreciate any insight :)
