I guess my question has more to do with the level of isolation enslaved people were kept at during the advanced stages of the war. From a previous answer I can assume that in the pre-war period the spread of information was heavily influenced by the movement of slaves between plantations and states, which I assume was not as common during wartime.

So I wonder - were there cases of perhaps smaller and more isolated plantations where the owner would try to maintain his workforce by decieving them regarding the end of the war or the following abolition?
