Hi all, happy month of May!!

We are looking to put hardwood floors in our 1970s finished ranch home up in Northwestern Pennsylvania right around the snow belt of Lake Erie.

I’m looking for feedback/thoughts, professional and/or personal, on what is the best type of hardwood floor for the area we live when considering the weather and dealing with the humidity/seasonal changes. Of note, we do have central air & heat. We pretty much live in our home in the sense that we only spend about 30 days total a year away from it. We have two dogs currently and probably always will.

While we are open to direct from a local(ish) mill, we are also considering a pre-finished hardwood install. We want to place a flooring product that is both economical yet ecological with longevity.

If anyone have feedback or experience on brands they recommend or type of wood that worked best for them, it’s appreciated! Looking for a lighter finish/stain with the wood looking as natural as it can. Staying away from red/dark stains, yellow and or gray finishes/stains. Thanks in advance!!
