You have - somehow, it does not matter how - managed to perform a service of value to an organized criminal enterprise and they are grateful to you. This service might have been legal or illegal, but regardless there is no evidence whatsoever to connect you to the performance of this service - if you simply accept the gratitude of the criminals and never speak of it, there will be zero consequences.
But the criminals are grateful - your actions have helped them greatly, and they offer to provide you with money. This money will come in the form of cash, once every so often - you may determine how often, and how it is delivered to you. You may also, effectively, chose the amount of cash you are given - there is no practical upper limit in this scenario.
Here is the rub; the criminal gang is well-known to the police and other law enforcement. They are eager to take down this criminal enterprise and everything associated with it. There is no special protection provided to you to avoid being associated with the gang if the police can infer and prove a connection. There is no particular legal protection, or accounting protection - the money does not just appear tax-free in your account.
The gang is willing to give you the money as often as you wish, on a regular schedule, at whatever rate - but it is always in cash. They are willing to make reasonable accommodations in giving it to you, but nothing that would obfuscate its source from an audit - basically, they are going to hand you cash, but when and where and how and in what kind of container and what sort of reasonable conceit they construct around it is up to you.
This occurs in the real world, our world - so the police are as competent as the police and not willing to just let things go. And the gang will be upset if your ineptitude leads to them being discovered.
The question is ... how much money would you take, and how?
The answer "I would take none because the risk is too high" or "I would take none because I am an honest person and I would be horrified I had accidentally done some service to criminals" are acceptable positions.
