For context I am 20, studying a double degree of mechanical engineering hons and finance at an Australian university. Changed uni’s and degrees so lost a few credits and sitting in essentially my 2nd year of studies. I hate the finance side of the degree, not the content but the people in the course. They have been nothing but petty and dishonest generally. However i love engineering, always have. I also cannot get any support, I lost my job 8 months ago and have been searching since for part time work while i study, parents keep saying they will help (which i don’t expect of them) but never actually do, I am ineligible for study allowance from the government due to my parents house and income (they aren’t wealthy by any means, the property prices just went stupid near us after we bought) and apparently changing universities disqualifies me too. I have worked since i was 13 and have always taken pride in earning my way through life but now im stuck. I cant really afford to keep studying but if i drop out there are still no jobs I can get (it’s all nursing or disability care or teaching). I cant find help from the university, everytime I ask a professor or teacher they just refer me to the same support page which is just the suicide line and info about scholarships (which i am also unable to get). Just feels pointless to do anything atp. Any suggestions? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
