Handicap parking space in condo building - what can I ask for
Hi Everyone!
I am an ambulatory wheelchair user but use my chair heavily. Due to disability and chronic health I have had to move out of my home with my partner and four year old to a nearby condo to try and focus on rest and recovery.
I told the condo that I needed access to an accessible parking space, and they told me that they cold give me my own space close to the elevator but that they couldn’t guarantee use of their accessible space. I knew this when I signed the lease.
However, I can’t even park my car and get out of the vehicle the space I am assigned is so small. It says “small car” even though I told them the make and model of my vehicle which is large to accommodate for my wheelchair. The single accessible stall has had the same car parked in it continuously.
I’m near vancouver BC in a surrounding city. Port Moody to be specific. I am a permit holder and am I’m unsure what to do here. I can’t even make it to my storage unit without my chair it is so far. But I am ambulatory and don’t use it in my studio apartment although I use it to and from the apartment.
Any advice or help is vey welcome! I used to just be fully bedbound so the freedom of a chair had been awesome I just don’t know the ropes yet.
