Potential (USA) Road Trip Suggestions

Wanting to take a road trip somewhere in the USA next year & would appreciate some suggestions!
We're thinking of either doing (01) the West Coast (Pacific NW/Oregon to SoCal), or doing (02) the Mid-West (Driving from Chicago down). Kind of set on going sometime from April — July, but have heard that the weather isn't great then for California. Have also heard differentiating things about the Mid-West (some saying it's quite dull), but have always been keen to see the nature.
Other options would be (03) Yellowstone - Zion - Bryce Parks or (04) New England. Just wanting some advice on what people would recommend for this time of year as we'll be traveling from Australia and don't want to have disappointing weather.
Should say we're also thinking about traveling for about a month — 6 weeks, so happy to kind split things up or stay in cities along the way. Are also thinking of doing a week in NYC / Chicago / LA afterwards before we fly home if that is of any use.
