Getting another bird?
Hi there, I was hoping to maybe get some advice on my cockatiel. Since I got my cockatiel (10 years ago now) I’ve had the two birds, him and then a parakeet. Well 7 months ago now, my parakeet passed away (she was 15 years old!!) and it feels like ever since then my cockatiel has been more poorly behaved and screaming constantly. It doesn’t matter if I’m in the same room as him or not, he will scream from the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to bed. I have been trying a lot of different things, it seems like he’s been hormonal so I have limited his daytime hours, altered his diet, all to no avail. I wonder if he is just bored? I can only hang out with him so much since I work most of the week. I am wondering if it is worth getting another cockatiel? I would like if having a friend could help him be less lonely. I am afraid though if getting another bird would just double the issue; ie twice the screaming? I believe he is male, are there concerns over two male birds fighting? Obviously I’m sure a lot of this is a big “it depends” but I was hoping to see if anyone has some similar experience or advice on the matter. Thank you so much!!
