I've been strictly only watching the anime since 2015 and absolutely loved it.
Three years ago, I was finally caught up (longer than expected, yes) and felt dread from not being able to binge the anime anymore. My friend, who is also a fan of One Piece, recommended me to read the manga. And I did! But for barely a chapter until I decided to stop. I thought the manga was so horrible. For context, I had never read any manga or even comic books before, and heck, One Piece was the only anime I'd ever watched at that time.
I got SO confused on how to read the manga panels, and upon learning it was from right to left, it threw me off so bad that I just couldn't continue. Another thing was, I thought the drawings were so underwhelming, especially during battle scenes. It didn't connect whatsoever for me. Then I stopped reading manga and just accepted that I'm gonna accept my life as a weekly anime watcher since then.
Fast forward to the present, where I finished Egghead in the anime. Upon knowing Elbaf was next, I just couldn't. I SIMPLY CAN'T wait for months for the second season of One Piece.
So I started reading the manga again, and to my surprise, the art and flow and everything were sooo different. I'm not sure how to say this, but the Elbaf chapters clicked instantly for me. And I CAN'T STOP reading it. I'd spent 10 hours continuously reading the manga and boy.
I also found the art of seeing everyone's reaction for each chapter on this subreddit, and boy, I love it. My only problem now is, I'm too in love with the manga, and I'm not sure whether I could enjoy watching the anime the same way again.

TL;DR: I was anime-only for years and hated the manga at first, but after Egghead I gave Elbaf a chance and it finally clicked. Now I’m hooked on the manga and worried the anime won’t feel the same anymore.
