Seeking advice regarding negative performance review at work

I had a performance review today and it really didn’t go well at all, which was a bit of a surprise to me.

My main appraisal was about 6 months ago and this went really well and I received really good feedback.

Fast forward to now and my performance review went quite terribly. It’s against a backdrop of unfortunately being diagnosed with a hearing disability and I’m a bit worried that I am being ‘managed out’.

The feedback that I had today was largely that my work had deteriorated, and that I was no longer a team player e.g. that I wasn’t volunteering for out of hours work events etc. They also commented on really odd things like saying my emails weren’t ’friendly and supportive’ and that I needed to proofread more as they had noticed a few spelling mistakes in my work and that it wasn’t showing that I had pride in my work. There were other things too such as formatting issues in spreadsheets, putting too many things in my calendar and not prioritising the right sort of work tasks.

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice or had been in a similar situation to me? I have now been set another review date in a couple of months and I can’t help but feel I’m being walked out of the door?

I’m not sure whether to send a follow up email to try and address some of these points or if I should just suck it up and try and jump through their hoops whilst quietly looking for a new job in the background? The hearing disability is very new and so I am aware that it has caused issues. I now wear hearing aids and am slowly adjusting to my “new normal” but I don’t think they understand the difficulties e.g. the reason I haven’t been volunteering for work events is because I struggle with crowds now and struggle to hear. It’s not because I’m not a team player.

I’m feeling a bit confused about whether I should try and advocate for myself or just accept where I am and try to find a way forwards?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated 🙏
